It is estimated that over 4000 migrant workers will have died before the WC in Qatar kicks off. Despite being the richest nation on earth (well per capita) the Qataris are still unwilling to treat their construction workers like humans. For every game that will be played there over 60 people will have died.

That really is shocking if true, how can the amount be so high?

The government over there, with a straight face, claim that not a single labourer has died yet.

article said:
“The World Cup stadium projects that we are responsible for, there have been no fatalities and no major injuries as well.”
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/may/05/qatar-no-labourers-killed-on-world-cup-stadiums-but-migrant-rules-to-change

Yet the stats say otherwise.

article said:
The Nepalese foreign employment promotion board said 157 of its workers in Qatar had died between January and mid-November this year – 67 of sudden cardiac arrest and eight of heart attacks. Thirty-four deaths were recorded as workplace accidents.

Figures sourced separately by the Guardian from Nepalese authorities suggest the total during that period could be as high as 188. In 2013, the figure from January to mid-November was 168.

“We know that people who work long hours in high temperatures are highly vulnerable to fatal heat strokes, so obviously these figures continue to cause alarm,” said Nicholas McGeehan, the Middle East researcher at Human Rights Watch.
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/dec/23/qatar-nepal-workers-world-cup-2022-death-toll-doha

The above figure excludes deaths of Indian, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi workers so it's fair to assume 1000+ have already died and they've only been building for 3 or 4 years.

They also have something called the 'Kafala system' over there which makes it very difficult for workers to quit their job and leave the country without the say so of their employer.

article said:
Qatar’s labour minister said on Monday he hoped kafala would be abolished before the end of this year. Under the scheme, employers in the Gulf kingdom can prevent foreign workers from changing jobs or leaving the country.

I don't think it will make any difference.

I recon Blatter has given them all up to the FBI in a deal to save his own skin

I hope it's not true but I wouldn't put it past him

If they have arrested everyone who was going to vote for Blatter he won't get re-elected anyway biggrin

I have a feeling that's the plan. Not quite got enough to nail Blatter yet, scupper his election then wait for people to come up with the necessaries once he's neutered.

I think (and hope) you're wrong.

This investigation will be under such close scrutiny that the FBI will be duty bound to follow it to wherever it leads. That's almost certainly Blatter and his close aides and cronies.

The prelude to this (co-op between the US and CH on sovereign territory) will have been a bh to organise. They'll have been building up to this moment for a long time and they'll be sure to have the evidence, intelligence and balls to make something weighty stick. Getting co-op from CH is notoriously hard.

In the yanks/FBI you couldn't ask for a better group to look into this. They'll have to be utterly transparent and inscrutable or else they'll be cornholed by their own senators.

I can genuinely see this ending in jail for a large number of people, hopefully Blatter inc.

When you play the game of thrones you win, or you fail to achieve the necessary number of votes to attain a 5th term of office.

I think it will just nail a select few, maybe 5 will eventually be convicted in several years time, meanwhile Blatter will be re-elected, sponsors will get twitchy but ultimately will stick with it and the 2018 and 2022 World Cups will continue as planned as they will say they won't overturn the bidding process. Blatter will then see out his new 5 year term.

Sadly, in large parts of the gulf, low-skilled immigrant workers from the poorer parts of the Indian sub-continent are viewed as consumable. I do not think it peculiar to Qatar alone.

Sadly I suspect you are right. frown

A key role in the investigation has been played by Chuck Blazer, a former unemployed suburban New York “soccer dad” who became so rich as America’s man on the Fifa executive board that he reportedly kept a second apartment in Manhattan’s Trump Tower for his cats.

Interesting chap - sounds like he'll be going to prison too. Will obviously get a lighter sentence given he's now a whistle-blower.

Sepp is no different than any other dictator

Its just that its a sport he rules, not a country, but unlike others he can't have people who displease him killed aka the tubby loon in charge of N Korea.

When he eventually passes away a lot very very nasty things will come to light.
