Oh brilliant, breaking news that Blatter claimed Russia was always going to host the world cup before the voting even happened and 2022 was to be in the USA until Platini decided on Qatar...I wonder if at this stage they can/will take the world cup off Russia and Qatar?

Blatter said: “In 2010 we had a discussion of the World Cup and then we went to a double decision. For the World Cups it was agreed that we go to Russia because it’s never been in Russia, eastern Europe, and for 2022 we go back to America. And so we will have the World Cup in the two biggest political powers.

“And everything was good until the moment when Sarkozy came in a meeting with the crown prince of Qatar, who is now the ruler of Qatar. And at a lunch afterwards with Mr Platini he said it would be good to go to Qatar. And this has changed all pattern. There was an election by secret ballot. Four votes from Europe went away from the USA and so the result was fourteen to eight. If you put the four votes, it would have been twelve to ten. If the USA was given the World Cup, we would only speak about the wonderful World Cup 2018 in Russia and we would not speak about any problems at Fifa.”

It's just noise. Platini will find it most difficult running Fifa from a US prison.

They all look totally trust-worthy, fine upstanding members of the World sporting community.

I'm sure they are all excellently qualified multi-millionaires, with not a hint of corruption in any of them.

FIFA is an absolute joke of an organisation. It would be funny if it wasn't so shocking. And the way Blatter is carrying on at the moment (and Platini as he's still going to run for President) is akin to prisoners that are held on remand talking about what they'll do when they get out hoping that the case around them collapses. It's an insult to anyone who actually cares about football.

True. And it shows that the national organisations don't really care about football either!

Do we get a refund then? Cannot see the problem there.

The problem sems to be that included in our £21m was over £2m of public money which was contributed by councils local to the football grounds included in our bid.

There would have been a lot of grief around the grounds had we won the bid. For example all advertising in a certain radius would have to be fifa proved stuff, I expect that there is more money spent that will not get a mention, that is from all the work to get the bids viable with all people it would have impacted on.

FIFA seems to exist merely to sell TV rights and to line the pockets of its staff and hangers on. The same could be said for UEFA.

Is there anything these august bodies do to benefit the sport of football? Other than throw money at their dodgy mates who run some of the FAs.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. Just what did our 21 million go towards - posh hotel suites and expensive limos for the FIFA elite...?

All it was, in effect, was a massively expensive raffle ticket - in a raffle you were never going to win.

We now need the answer as to exactly what events led to the Moscow decision being made BEFORE the vote.

I could hazard a guess, but that would just be me being cynical. And I wouldn't want that.

Probably been that way for 40 odd years now.

Nothing will be done about it though.

However gets voted in as new Pres will be no different.

As Pete Townsend's line in Won't Get Fooled Again goes...."Meet the new boss, same as the old boss..."

Let FIFA try to hold a World Cup without the football powerhouses ( and England). Then it will be clear who exactly holds the true power.

The problem is, all the "powerhouses" hate each other..

In reality, as is said, all FIFA do is arrange the World Cup. Because of TV/Sponsors, there is a huge amount of money sloshing about. This leads to corruption. But the corruption is only oveer who runs FIFA and in turn, who gets the World Cup. And why does anyone want the WC? Because of TV/Sponsors, there is a huge amount of money sloshing about....

The real issue is the coutries seem to misintepret what "bidding" means. It's an auction. Whoever pays the highest price, wins. Having individiual countries/members "voting" is farcical. Rather than the FA spending £21m on a bid, they'd have been better actually bidding £21m, payable to FIFA upon winning the rights to host the WC.

Why can't the TV rights be given away for free?
