Just on the thread title, Blatter admits Qatar WC error, to be fair to the old crook, maybe it's time to admit that we were all wrong about Russia and he was right. They put on a fantastic WC, maybe the best ever, as he said they would. No trouble, no racism, so much so that there was no need for segregation in the stadia.

Just amazing.
+1

The Russians did a great job.
Honest question, and not to be antagonistic, but wasn’t it the best ever due to the matches rather than logistics and facilities?

Allied to the fact that England got further than expected and there weren't running fights in the streets either, yes.

Anyone else really, really hoping Israel qualify?
Oy vey! rofl
I would suggest the qualification of KSA would be more problematic st present!
I wonder if KSA will not face a ban for their illegal streaming of BEOutQ? I would not be surprised if that was why they were so confident in flouting the piracy, as they won't play anyway?

Sure, the great football was out of the hosts control, but everything that was in their control, was done superbly. Blatter said it would be, and no one believed him. It's an uncomfortable fact, but he was right and we were wrong.

Infantino thinks it would be nice for Qatar to share the world cup with their neighbours. You know, the ones currently blockading them.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'll be cheering on Israel through their qualification campaign. It would be hilarious if they got through.

I have been a few times at that time of year. Very pleasant at 70s/low 80s. Some issues with dust storms.

However it's a monumentally stupid idea to hold the tournament there. North Korea would be a better choice - at least they have some world cup history as well.
Indeed - and not a good choice for the Middle East either.

Qatar is despised by most of its neighbours and flights are restricted in and out of Qatar from GCC members.

A 3-way hosting between Bahrain UAE and Oman may have been a better idea .... all are a lot more tourist friendly than Qatar.

... still a daft idea to have the tournament in the Gulf and in summer to start with ... 50+ deg C and 90% humidity .... you would have had risk of death from heat stroke

I'm not too sure those countries could have afforded the necessary FIFA 'subscriptions' that are necessary to win a World Cup bid.... wink

You’re probably right

Must have taken a bit of brib.... I mean persuasion to convince FIFA to hold the World Cup in a country with no football history or infrastructure, 50 degree heat , 90% humidity, and rather poor tolerance to some ‘minorities’

.... how else would a country win with NONE of the basic essential selection criteria for hosting a World Cup.

Fascinating read. I was shocked to find that the FIFA had an ethics committee. I wonder if they knew.

Presumably the committee is made up of the three wise monkeys, they heard nothing and saw nothing so they said nothing.

It's happening in Qatar, like it or not. Nothing will be done about it and it was a massively corrupt process before Qatar came to the table. They just played the game the best, hardly surprising given their culture basically functions around corruption/bribes etc.

To be fair athletics isn’t a big draw anywhere.

London did a pretty good job of it. In fact more of Europe does, same in the US. Even China managed to draw a crowd.

I feel a bit sorry for the athletes. The facilities look lovely but you can't force people to watch it live.
