World Athletics Champs going on in Doha now. Absolutely sod-all people there. Embarrassing.
To be fair athletics isn’t a big draw anywhere.
Have you ever watched the world athletics championships?

I'm not really expecting you to watch the whole video but for evidence here's the men's 100 final from last time in London. The same event happened last night and there was no comparison.

So why is it in Qatar?

London did a pretty good job of it. In fact more of Europe does, same in the US. Even China managed to draw a crowd.
All of which have far higher populations than Doha.

Athletics and football governing bodies are corrupt and follow the money?

True but you said it doesn’t draw anywhere.

Wonder what Greta thinks about them air conditioning the open air stadium!

Oh, and running the ladies marathon at midnight (more lighting) and still half the field fags out as they're heat exhausted! Bodes well for the World Cup.

What a load of bks

Exactly. Even if people don't care about athletics I'd have thought that all this is relevant to a thread about dodgy dealings to get the football world cup in Qatar.

Helsinki didn’t have a shortage of crowds, and it is much smaller than Doha.

I think I heard on the TV coverage that inside the stadium is 22-24C. Should be okay for footie.

The marathon was over 30C.

I thought of this when I heard the news ‘oh someone took a fat envelope then’.

Well, yes, that’s a given, but surely better places than Qatar would have bribed them.......and possibly not been so obviously a stitch Up?

The 2016 Cycling world road race championship was in Qatar and there were hardly any spectators at all and the courses were practically devoid of any scenery of note

I’m sure they were easy to bribe, whoever the governing body is.

Perhaps it would be more difficult to bribe in other countries.
