Jeremy Paxman vs Russell Brand
Discussion
I know he's a marmite character on here (Brand.) But every now and then he comes out with some sense. Yesterday's newsnight was an intresting watch:

Makes some good points but can't see a revolution happening any time soon. Thoughts?

Another speck on an island full of people up their own arse that seem to think they have some kind of influence on the world.

I reckon the destroyer of worlds had some influence tho, thats how it's done.

I've just watched it. He's just got a loud mouth and can throw in some fancy words here every now and then. Like a true politician he managed to dodge the more direct questions, and like the lefty that he is he blames his problems on everybody else. Perhaps if he wants Communism in this country he should start by setting an example and give his own money away. All I heard was “Wah wah wah… rich people are evil, wah wah wah profit is bad, wah wah wah we’re killing the planet… wah wah wah I was a druggy because of the government…” But he didn’t actually have a solution or alternative to anything that he was complaining about.
It would seem that his political appeal is to the type of person who doesn’t follow politics or economics at all.

I don't really see the problem with him,
a) He's right
b) He's funny
c) He get's through a lot of clunge.
I mean what is not to like and respect about the man skinny jeans and hairdo aside.
The fatal flaw being he wants change , but has no idea or answers to anything. Everyone wants change in some way, but it's a bit pointless when you don't know what you want to change to. a) He's right

I don’t vote because to me it seems like a tacit act of compliance; I know, I know my grandparents fought in two world wars (and one World Cup) so that I’d have the right to vote. Well, they were conned.
Conned?, i thought we faced being wiped out.

I don't think he's an idiot, not by a long shot. His issues with our current form of governance are well-founded and I don't think not having a fully-fledged idea of what to replace it with is too big a deal. I don't really agree with a lot of what he says but I'd rather people with his passion and will for change were in charge than the current jerk-circle of Etonian prats.

He explains quite lucidly what he wants to changes and how he wants to change, he also suggest that the nuts and bolts work of organising a new egalitarian system of utilitarian utopian administration is probably best left to academics and intellectuals not standup comedians.
The replies on here show the inertia against any type of change in our political system which is founded on the lies that politicians
a) Have answers to anything
b) Are able to act on their promises if and when they make them
c) People in general give any depth of thought about why and where their vote goes.

As bad as the system is, people eat and have roofs over their heads, what does he want? War... bring it on and see how the general populous beg for the old system to return.
The French revolution was not a war, the Bolshevik revolt was not a war (well perhaps a bit), the various overnight revolutions in Eastern Europe were not wars. The balance of wealth and power is sooooo heavily in the hands of so few that a true social revolution that actually was built on a solid support from the masses and a shared vision of the future would be over in seconds and fairly bloodless, in my opinion.mattnunn said:
