Im just watching this on the news, we really do like kicking our own, they have atrocities carried out against them daily yet we try our own for murder at the first chance. Un f ing believable.

I have a question RE the above.

Why did they do this when Video / Audio was running and secondly, did someone say something for this to happen? Shirely, they where not just doing a random video check and came across this?

He knew that he was doing wrong, his language on the video shows as much. This wasn't some "Heat of the moment" decision, it was cold blooded.

No, it's breaking the law.

The enemy are animals and if they get blown to small pieces and die the most horrible death imaginable during battle so be it, I'll loose no sleep whatsoever.

We are not animals but a civilised society and we either act like one or we just as bad as the Taliban et al.

That momentary lack of judgment will be with him until the day he dies. It's a shame as our soldiers are brave and working in extreme conditions, but.......

He knew the rules, in fact it's in the title of the thread.

Plainly, since he stated the fact on video. I get the feeling that the video was kept on purpose...

Possibly.

It's the biggest mistake of his life and the shame of it is the enemy soldier was probably going to die anyway!

What is un-fking-believable is that you made that comment at all.

My sentiments exactly

How can we suggest to other countries that they sort out humans rights issues etc if we are no better?

They are meant to be there stopping this mind of mentality. That's real easy for me to say when I've never been in the Marines position of seeing my mates get killed and being unable to trust any Afghan, but it's a fundamental point of them being there.
This kinda thing just recruits more people willing to fight and die to kill British soldiers and make their position even worse.

This kinda thing has always happened on the battlefield from both sides and always will when we asking people to go and fight and kill another group. I saw this clip the other day about a fighter pilot in WW2 admitting, and some would say bragging, of doing a similar thing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ma79h_w_-xA

Not a lot of sympathy. The temptation would surely be there, but they know better and are trained accordingly. The others appear quite lucky to get away with it, I would imagine their units would dish out some disciplinary.

Indeed. It seems Cupramax supports attrocities in cold blood. I wonder if he's smart enough to spot the irony.

What! You are missing the point, there is a marked and significant difference between 'us' and the Taliban/Afghan insurgents. We abide by the rule of law, our troops should know the difference between right and wrong, and killing an injured and defenceless man, whatever the circumstances is abhorrent, illegal and unforgivable. What he did was not in the face of the enemy, or in the heat of battle, it was cold blooded murder. Sargeant A is damned by his own words and actions and deserves what sentence he gets.

Before you accuse me of being a lefty sandal wearer, I have been in the forces for 30 years. The reputation of the Royal Marines is probably severely damaged.

If the roles had been reversed, would the insurgent have treated the soldier in accordance with the GC or would he have been executed on video for the brothers?

I don't know what effect these men will have upon the enemy, but, by God, they frighten me.

Which is as it should be.

What does that matter?
That's the same old argument you use for most things.

Everyone knows they would, if not haul them off for a beheading video. The point is we are there to try and stop this st and not join in and be the equal of the enemy. Easy to say and hard to do, I know, but that's the job they are meant to be doing.

We are civilised and treat human beings with respect.

They are not and don't.

And your point is?
