Scotland Helicopter Crash
Discussion
Before I went to bed last night the news reports said "the prime minister has tweeted his condolences etc". I don't know if the report was accurate because I don't twitter.
Is it just me, or is it now generally accepted that a "tweet" is a professional and respectable way for the PM to communicate such an important message? What's wrong with releasing a statement? I think it's rather demeaning.

Blue plastic being draped over the helicopter now. Obviously, the occupants will be extracted over the next hour or so.
Nothing obvious about it at all. More likely that as it's daylight they don't want high power lenses seeing bodies / body parts. It could be hours whilst the incident teams take photos, etc.normalbloke said:
That's quite technically, absolutely incorrect.
+1Depends what breaks though, high speed driveshaft/gearbox itself etc....very hard to second guess. Speculation at this stage is, IMO, pure b*******.
If true that he had declared a mayday and was trying an authoritative landing then it could be anything that failed. Thoughts with the casualties and their families...(,

Sky News now reporting that at least six people died in the crash.
Let's hope that it stops there too....Given the fact that 120 people were alledged to have been in the pub, and the three on the aircraft,on the face of it, that seems miraculous.
32 taken to hospitals in the area..

I hate speculation, especially when people clearly don't have a clue what they're talking about. The main thing at the moment is saving lives and minimising risk to the rescue personnel. Leave the accident investigation to those that know and all will be revealed in due course.
A witness on news said that the heli flew over them at Glasgow green so I reckon he must have been going back to the heli pad. It is a fair distance away though. The broomielaw might have been his chosen spot to put the thing down, or the very large open car park just behind the Clutha and he just didn't make it .All IMO of course. Thoughts are with the families .
