Before I went to bed last night the news reports said "the prime minister has tweeted his condolences etc". I don't know if the report was accurate because I don't twitter.

Is it just me, or is it now generally accepted that a "tweet" is a professional and respectable way for the PM to communicate such an important message? What's wrong with releasing a statement? I think it's rather demeaning.

Blue plastic being draped over the helicopter now. Obviously, the occupants will be extracted over the next hour or so.

Nothing obvious about it at all. More likely that as it's daylight they don't want high power lenses seeing bodies / body parts. It could be hours whilst the incident teams take photos, etc.

Depends what breaks though, high speed driveshaft/gearbox itself etc....very hard to second guess. Speculation at this stage is, IMO, pure b*******.

If true that he had declared a mayday and was trying an authoritative landing then it could be anything that failed. Thoughts with the casualties and their families...(,

Let's hope that it stops there too....

Given the fact that 120 people were alledged to have been in the pub, and the three on the aircraft,on the face of it, that seems miraculous.

32 taken to hospitals in the area..

Sorry to hear that - and whilst I hope your suspicions prove to be wrong, I think it is important to keep in mind that many many people's lives were changed forever a little over ten hours ago.

Best wishes

Fatalities are now being confirmed, six so far which is expected to rise. According to Sky News, the wreckage is now a salvage operation rather than a recovery operation frown

I hate speculation, especially when people clearly don't have a clue what they're talking about. The main thing at the moment is saving lives and minimising risk to the rescue personnel. Leave the accident investigation to those that know and all will be revealed in due course.

A witness on news said that the heli flew over them at Glasgow green so I reckon he must have been going back to the heli pad. It is a fair distance away though. The broomielaw might have been his chosen spot to put the thing down, or the very large open car park just behind the Clutha and he just didn't make it .All IMO of course. Thoughts are with the families .

I'm glad to see that both the CC and Salmond have praised the response of ordinary Weegies in helping at the scene.

Another helicopter crash, is it just me who thinks helicopters are st? Crash to number ratio is high it seems. Are they flawed in some way?
