When I started driving there were only a few of us that could afford to run one so racing wasnt even thought of. it was usually who was going to drive to the pub, not whats the 0-60 time.
IMO its only been the last 15-20 odd years where credit has allowed young blokes to buy cars and modify that would have been out of reach financially.

My first PH type car was a cheapo Renault 5 GT Turbo bought on finance with an APR of 28%
I was tagged in an article on Facebook last night where some conspiracy loving yanks had written about a 5000 work article on how PW and RR are still alive and the crash was a dramatic money spinning hoax to boost revenue for the F&F franchise.
Biggest load of bks I had ever read. Involving Pyrotechnicians fueling the fire. Mismatching wheel nut colours and license plates.
Anyone else seen it?

They've obviously missed the fact that the centre lock wheel nuts are different colours left and right on a Carrera GT as they're handed, with the colour coding to denote each side, and built up a whole clusterfk of woo around it.Biggest load of bks I had ever read. Not entirely sure that comes as a surprise.. the speed that lamp post flattened in the video shows they were really shifting! bit surprised there has been no more earlier footage from the industrial park

Yep that lamp post in the video went down insanely fast. bit surprised there has been no more earlier footage from the industrial park
Unfortunately it just came down to the driver being an idiot in the end. I was sort of hoping for a tyre failure etc to be honest.

Perhaps those that lambasted anyone with the "disrespect" to even suggest the bleeding obvious fact that the car may have been making progess in this thread a few weeks ago would like to pop back in here to receive their arses - they are getting a bit heavy and need to be handed back to the owners.
Very sad, these two seemed decent guys from what has been written about them since the accident. Glad they did not take any bystanders with them to tarnish their seemingly deserved prior perception from the public. Let that be a lesson to all of us - it ain't the movies, sudden deceleration from high speed fking hurts when you start collecting roadside furniture, and I can vouch for that first hand.

By that post, I guess that you could be one of those requiring your arse back then? I thought that I, and many others with that point of view were quite respectful to the two victims in the car in what was posted throughout this thread - very different to the total lack of respect that the PHers who could not accept that the car might have been going a bit too quick showed us.
I am not worrying about scoring points off the terminally thick on here. You see, people said we should not discuss it till the facts are out. The facts seem to be out now, and I'm ready when you are.
So gutted that it does seem speed was the main factor afterall. I knew speed was involved to some extent but I really thought there'd have been another reason aswell.
One question I haven't read the latest report do they mean 100kph or 100mph?
