he will be severely disabled with little or no motor skills whatsoever.
Hmm, that sounds familiar.... possibly ready for the second seat at Lotus for 2016?Sure a bloke that many of us admire and look up to is in a very bad way and a family suffering. But he's not exactly someone any of us are mates with. Bad things happen every day.

This tragic story just proves there are a lot of activities more dangerous than motor racing. Its often said after these kind off events that the person was lucky to survive, being left in a vegetative state they may have been better not surviving.
It doesn't prove that skiing is more or less dangerous than motor racing at all.He happened to be skiing when the accident which caused this injury happened.
It's difficult to quantify which is more dangerous. I suspect that there are far more injuries in skiing BUT far more people per year ski and there are no formal requirements for qualifications to ski (as opposed to the classes of motor racing in which Schumacher competed).
I'm pretty sure none of the "jokes" or any negative comments by anyone in this thread were meant or were posted without thinking it through.
Cannot imagine anyone taking joy or mocking someone who is hurt - especially seriously hurt (there are many exceptions Saville etc which Id happily dance on his grave).
Schumacher did great work do charity - and did it all without shouting about it, he was at the top of his sport for decades and the most successful F1 driver of all time. I'm not one for comparing different eras it's irrelevant he is in the hall of fame and rightly so.
I've never seen him live don't know him much like nearly everyone else - but none the less when the accident happened I was very saddened by the news and feared the worse. Appreciate that the family rightly don't want any press or general public involvement and at some point in the future we will find out what has happened in all this time (hopefully with Michael telling his story of recovery).

I wonder if we'll ever find out just how fast he was going on those skis. Not that it's relevant really, but there was 2 stories kicking around at the time, both at opposite ends of the speed scale.
There are mobile phone apps that log that sort of thing for you using GPS. The most I've done is about 43 mph, but it seems about twice that with no car around you.I think he was going through a short section between 2 pistes, so he was unlikely to be going that fast. If you're skiing through virgin snow you can sometimes hit a hollow that throws you without warning. I wiped out that way once. Seems he hit a rock with his head though, which is desperately unlucky.
I don't really understand why his family are keeping his condition secret. What difference would it make to them whether the world knew or not? Are they expecting us all to forget all about him?
Bianchi's family on the other hand went out of their way to keep the media updated and I respect them for that.
TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if Schumacher were to die from his injuries, his family would have a private burial before even telling the press.

I've said it before, the next time we will hear anything concrete will be to report his death.Bianchi's family on the other hand went out of their way to keep the media updated and I respect them for that.

Because his injuries are so severe that he isn't the same person mentally or physically that he was known to be prior to his accident. Their lives will have gone through a massive change to ensure he has the right care and they will have had to of moved on mentally about his abilities and his personality. Being reminded of who he used to be compared to how he is now won't help with that transition as it will drag their perception of his condition back to his pre accident condition. Bianchi's family on the other hand went out of their way to keep the media updated and I respect them for that.

Been there with my father, its easy to live with the now than to be constantly reminded of the seismic changes that have happened.
Agree, he was always a very independent and private person too. Total reverse of his situation now.
I understand why the family don't want his condition paraded in the press - because its probably pretty horrific.
I think its probably a lot worse than a lot of people think.
He would not want people to know just how bad it is IMHO.

Agreed. It's their prerogative. I understand why they would do so. I Am interested in his progress / status but I have no right to know and have no need to know. In some ways I am better not knowing as when I think of him I think of red race suit and a winning smile and not of a man with severe physical and mental challenges.
