The only good thing to come from wars like WW2 was the short term increased employment.
The increase in employment lasted for 25 years after the war ended.

Nothing gets the economy moving like blowing everything up and starting from scratch.

Other good things to come out of WWII included penicillin, jerrycans, radar, computers, synthetic rubber, jet engines and nuclear power.

a small deliciously twisted part of me almost hopes it gets to the point where HMG has to call up all the male citizens in the U.K. the benefits would be enormous

thousands of dual nationality males will bugger off back to what ever third world hell hole they were born in.
almost universal employment for a very brief period of time
and the immense pleasure to be taken in listening to the spittle filled whining of the Putin apologists on here as the police came and dragged them off to some windy cold training camp in the middle of Salisbury plain.

shame it will never happen

The idea that war generates money is the oldest wives tale in the book. The fact is, it literally, costs a bomb.
One point for ignorance, two for bathing in said ignorance. Colossally entertaining though. laugh
He has a point, surely?

I mean look at Lockhead martin, look at bae systems and all those other arms producers.

Poor as fk last time i checked.

If you want to see how destitue war makes you, look at SOFEX.

If Russia ruled Lithuania, or Lithuania did, it'd probably make little difference to 99% of Lithuanian's.
Really? please tell that to all the those that lived under 40 years of russian oppression/occupation

Its the main reason my father left latvia for england after the war as he didn't really feel living in the clusterfk that was the USSR.

It seems all the putin apologists think 'it's alright they've lived with it before they can live with it again'

dude get real, russian army would get to Kiev in a day only if they wanted so, actually ukrainian army wouldn't even fight against them (see Crimea for example)

Under USSR I think many were not happy, but Russia today is clearly a different beast.

I'd argue that in 5 years the EU at that time and contemporary Russia probably wouldn't feel too different given the way the EU is heading.

Here in the UK I'm dreading an ever more united Europe, just as much as I'd dread living in Russia today.

If you're in Latvia now you're probably thinking you're fooked either way.

I'm not a Putin apologist. I'm a supporter of real freedom and that means dismissing both Putin and EU and Obama etc.

Sovereign countries under a European area protection pact would make infinitely more sense.

Well put, we have Mr Junker openly talking about a European army. Heaven help us with those morons at the helm, they will make Blair look like the love child of Einstein and mother Teresa.

... and the world immediately throws the legal book at Russia, not to mention a completely unsustainable fiscal responsibility toward the conquered territories.

Far better to support the so called "separatists" carving up chunks of Ukraine which can self-govern (as long as the candidates are pro-Kremlin of course), while maintaining a veneer of plausible deniability

Farage speech in the European parliament.

These are the people that want the power of an European army.

fk off Russia.
fk off USA.
Go to your Pacific border if you want to have fisticuffs.
I'd daresay the USA owes its success partly to being a major manufacturing provider during WW2, did rather well out of it, financially speaking.
I am worried about a E.U army if the wrong people have control over it, but it would be nice to tell the Yanks and Ruskies to go be s in their own backyard.
