I think Putins megalomaniac and wouldnt normally defend him but surely the ramping up of military hardware in Syria is a direct result of the coalition push in Iraq. Even the BBC have been quite open in reporting that the coalition has left an exit route open for IS fighters in Iraq and thats straight into Syria.

Unless there is some secret pact to push IS into Russias hands (which seems completely ludicrous) surely the result of the coalition offensive is to deliver more fighters to attack Assad and by extension through choice Russia.

fk me banghead

Edit: I really really hate the way the gutter tabs are seeking to whip up maximum hysteria over this. They're practically giddy about it.

It's fking irresponsible.

That's all they do, whip up hysteria, mis-information. They are there to sell papers not inform the public.

How is it nothing like Western interventions in other countries? Some people try to start a revolution and throw out the elected leader in a country next to Russia. Russia has both a lot of their own people in the country and an important military base there. Russia then interferes to defend base. We have supported plenty of bad governments (or gone to war in a country to replace leaders) to make sure our interests are supported. Often we have "none" of our own people there and it is a huge distance away from our country. Just we often try and say it is for humanitarian reasons. I don't see how it's nothing like our interventions.
They aren't 'Russia's people', they're people who identify as russian, but not so much that they renounced being ukrainian and moved across the border. Seizing 27,000 sq km of Ukraine by force because you're worried about the physical security of perhaps 10 sq km of naval base already protected by treaty obligations is an act one could reasonably describe as grossly disproportionate.

I am talking about ethnic Russians, you dolt.
ethnic Russians do not consider themselves Ukrainians, that's ridiculous smile
The ethnic russians having a collective delusion doesn't entitle Volodya to steamroll the rights of all the other citizens in Crimea or those in eastern Ukraine who are being st on by a bunch of criminals playing at being dictator.

Artoir's "sane" middle ground: Supporting jihadists in a war to unseat the sitting president of a foreign country in the name of oil.

Whatever floats your boat.
In this case 'sitting president' equates to 'brutal dictator'
Your post is exactly the type of thing Artoir was on about.
Trying to convince us Assad and Putin are a couple of decent human beings don't cut no ice. Whether the alternative is worse is what is up for debate.

Emotional hyperbole to cover for what you know to be true.

I've lost track of the number of authoritarian regimes and tin-pot despots the US has propped up until it was no longer financially beneficial to do so. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_authoritaria...

this is as real as Donald's special server directly connected to Kremlin, propagated by the same liberal media

the truth is montenegrin government staged it on the election day to secure a wild card if results don't go their way

just look at the arsenal they confiscated from "terrorists", slingshots and brass knuckles...

Means little, the USA aren't held to account by the ICC either.

I can't help but respect Putin.

He has one objective, and that is the improvement of Russia's position.

That is the reason why Trump and he are similar.

Compare that to Obama, or our own position for the last 20 years, and it is fascinating to see the political sands shifting to a more controversial and risky aspect.

The source isn't even slightly credible. If they said "Elvis has been found on the moon" you wouldn't listen, so why listen to this?
