Russia has said they regard this as a 'terrorist act'.

Ok, so when do they start randomly bombing Ankara then...?

Haven't key NATO figures already told Turkey they shouldn't expect any help if they keep prodding the bear?

I don't blame 'em either - who wants to get into a showdown with Russia over that knobber Erdogan?

Assassinating a Russian ambassador is really going to help things in Aleppo isn't it? What a prize pillock and a selfish one at that, with one bullet he's no doubt going to cause so much more pain and suffering for a whole heap of people. What did he really think he would achieve by this murder?

On a side note, you would think a Russian ambassador would have better security in a country well know for it's terrorist problems.

So what?

Russian Air crew were killed and exactly WHAT happened?

Topping an ambassador, not the first, won't be the last.

I bet the guy that assured the Russian authorities that this guy was ok isn't answering any calls at the moment.

...a little bit more, the Russian Ambassador just died of his injuries.
The assassin was an off duty Turkish policeman.

At least Russia has denounced it as an act of terrorism, implicit in that I think is Russia accept it's not the Turkish state behind it, so war with Turkey no, but expect the Russians to bomb someone in Syria.

ETA: reported his words are part of some Al Nusra anthem, expect Al Nusra to get bombed in Syria.

Seems being a Russian diplomat is a very dangerous job these days as number 3 is found dead.

This seems to be the all things Russia thread so though I'd leave this here..

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/feb/07/puti...

"From now on, beatings of spouses or children that result in bruising or bleeding but not broken bones are punishable by 15 days in prison or a fine, if they do not happen more than once a year. Previously, they carried a maximum jail sentence of two years."

As long as you don't beat your wife more than once a year it's not a criminal offence, only a civil offence.

WTF!

If accurate this is quite a story.

"Russia plotted to assassinate the prime minister of a European nation and overthrow its government last year, according to senior Whitehall sources.

An election-day coup plot to attack Montenegro’s parliament and kill the pro-Western leader was directed by Russian intelligence officers with the support and blessing of Moscow, to sabotage the country’s plan to join Nato."
