I am from Montenegro and that's ridiculous. It was just a setup by our government to have an excuse for martial law if results didn't go their way.

We practically have a criminal dictator family ruling our country for almost 30 years. Who knows how many high ranking police officers and journalists got killed, not a single case solved. They won't leave without lot of blood.

I'm surprised the Russians have time to run their own country. If western spooks and politicians are to be believed the Russians have interfered (or are going to interfere) in the US election, Brexit, the French election, the Dutch election, the German election........ smile

GCHQ is offering advice to the main political parties on how to prevent Russian hackers tampering with democracy.

Seminars will be held to educate politicians on the threat from the Kremlin after its spies were accused of carrying out cyberattacks to tamper with US and German elections.

Ciaran Martin, chief executive of GCHQ’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), has written to leaders of all the main political parties to offer advice on how to withstand attacks, according to the Sunday Times.

How is anyone meant to take any of this nonsense seriously any more?

People have a vote, vote for who you want to win. It's that simple.

If using propaganda is called 'hacking', and propaganda is a 'new thing', then blimey there are some gullible idiots out there.

Maybe if the mainstream media and government actually dispersed intelligent material and honest material they wouldn't need to be worrying about the junk (and truths) others may be releasing.

Does anyone think the latest news from "the experts" that Russia is so good at hacking we are all at risk, is a precursor to give us lots more money please?

It just seems so convenient to blame every ill in the world on Russia. If they are that good that they have got Trump elected, helped Assad commit war crimes all with a key board then why bother with conventional weapons?

I also read today that China now has some sort of death ray weapon that can take out satellites in orbit. Well thats all of the US guided missiles screwed!

I just think the arms people need a bogey man who they know is not insane. That is why they don't poke Kimmy boy as he is insane enough to set of a nuclear war. Putin wants power in his own country and by being seen as hard against the US works.

We don't need to invent a "friendly" bogey man. There are plenty out there already; be they kids in bedrooms / financially Motivated / Exposers / State sponsored / State delivered etc, etc.

Industry currently pays lip service to the threat. NCSC is doing a great job in raising the issue and making CxOs realise that the potential fallout from a cyber attack isn't their website going down for a few hours, but can (and does) have much further reaching implications on a country's ability to maintain stable order.

ETA regarding "death rays", that may not be so far fetched (other than the name!).

I agree that companies are ill equipped to deal with cyber crime. You only have to read some of the stories of companies who are held to ransom by the sort of people you have mentioned. However, at the moment it is only Russian hackers that are being blamed and by telling all the political parties that they are at risk from Russia to have the political system hijacked, they set themselves up nicely for more funds. They may well need them if we are as far behind as it would appear in this new war.

If you have not, check out the new Vault 7 release from Wiki. Lots of info. on how the CIA's UMBRAGE group has the ability to hack systems and misdirect attribution by applying phony digital "fingerprints."

Not his biggest fan but think he is very good as a leader in many ways. That said he or his allies really don't help him with these sorts of things.

Another fine example of Russian democracy in action.

You open your trap against Putin and he's straight on the phone to rent-a-hitman.

I wonder if someone from Russia has just visited the Ukrainian Army's weapon depot at Balakleya, Karkov region. As it's blown up rather badly and rockets were flying all over the place.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpwEZ_9VLD8

"At 2:45, on separate sites of the armament base, located in the city of Balakleya, Kharkov region, a fire started. All measures are taken to localize and extinguish the fire on site. Now the causes of the incident are being clarified. The headquarters of the extinguishing of the fire are deployed. On the scene to assist and identify the causes of the incident, flew a commission led by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Lieutenant-General Igor Pavlovsky, officers of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, "the ministry said.

As reported by the "Chief", the city residents leave the area of the military unit. At the same time mobile communication is overloaded or absent, stationary - in some places there is no.

From Balakleya there is a huge flow of cars, eyewitnesses say, it's almost impossible to leave, and residents of houses located near the epicenter of explosions, wait for emergency in the bombproof shelters. "

There was an attempt to blow it up by saboteurs back in 2015.

Looks like they succeeded this time

There is a Russian diplomatic compound fairly near my house.

I was wondering if I could trap them in there by spraying a thin line of red paint across the entrance...?
