If only. Given some of the tin-foil-2@-hattery churned out even just on this thread, an announcement that the thing is positively plastered with bone-fide MH370 part numbers would just have the usual conspiraloons claiming it was planted there by the CIA/Mossad/Murdoch/Elvis.

Edited: beaten to it!
Don't be bloody silly. It's the lizards, I tell you......

If they can establish it's from a 777 then it's almost a certainty I would think.

Just a bit of debris at the moment. Wait for it to be checked out. I expect they will be on this quickly.

Hopefully the serials will be easily accessible and MH should be able to confirm

Agreed.
And if it is it only confirms what people have been waiting/dreading to hear and finding the plane will go from nigh on impossible to very difficult.

If it is part of MH370 did it travel all that way with the current or did the plane crash further West than the previous estimates suggest?

So.... If the part is from Mh370, and if its floated there on the currents then I'd suggest the search areas might be too far south?

Given it's been so long since the crash I'd imagine the location of any wash up debris (within reason) now wouldn't affect the current search area due as any debris has probably travelled many thousands of miles due to currents.

It would be a relief if this could be positively identified as from MH370. It would finally put all of the conspiracy theory wkfest to bed.
If the thing washed up intact, with the captain still at the controls, you would still have a hardcore of Snatters wittering on about lizards or bloody chemtrails or whatever the stefest of the day is.

It seems each and every aircraft part has a s/n so we will soon find out if it's MH17 or not.

Looks like they are fairly confident it's from MH370 as it's been identified as a 777 part.

Hopefully they can work back along the line of drift and eventually find it.

It's not as if there are many missing 777 in that part of the world...

If it is from the plane then the search area might be too far south at the moment because the southern ocean currents there would take it eastwards. The northern part of the track is more conducive for it to be carried around the Indian ocean.

Now those islands are quite small compared to the size of the ocean, so it would be quite lucky to have hit there. On the other hand 1000 other parts might have drifted by.

A hijacked 767 crashed down that neck of the woods, not sure how similar the flaperons are between the planes though

Should be very easy to differentiate between 767 and 777 parts of that nature.
