So, the UKIP fans default is to believe that any bad press is an unfounded smear and any bad press of other parties is true and good reporting?
no, just have a pretty sceptical view of the timing of stuff like this..

the infamous "good day to bury bad new"the resignation of

(look at the timing of Mike Hancock's resignation

http://order-order.com/2014/09/19/libdems-bury-han... )

the UKIP conference is only 2 days, IS crisis has been going on for weeks, was Friday really that urgent?

My interest right now is to see if UKIP can actually put out coherent polices that amount to more than 'anti' positions. Right now I still can't distinguish UKIP from a single-issue separatist party and they're not even consistent on that.

Doesn't every party have a default position?

Perhaps we should examine default positions of the rest of them and see what that dredges up.

Labour: so not bothered about the economy that can't be minded to mention it at keynote speech 8 months from a GE.

That's starter for one.

Incidentally wasn't Nigel Farage the most prominent politician to voice his horror that David Cameron wanted to arm and support these rebels in Syria a few months ago? Now the rebels have turned out to be terrorists... who'd have thought?
Predicted the Ukrainian situation fairly well a few years back too IIRC.

They are proposing to raise the VAT rate from 20% to 25%. This will be popular in some circles.

The abolotion of inheritence tax will sweeten the pill for the rest of us.

Just the kippers starting to come to the realisation that revenue has to be raised from somewhere (and/or a bit of populist nonsense).

Not really very well thought through though is it? Indeed a bit worrying that something so amateur-hour would be offered, leaked or published by whoever wrote that (and noted that there is no indication as to whether its policy or not).

The argument made about VAT rates on "Budget items" being the same as "Luxury" items is a bit stupid because what is conspicuous by its absence in that text is

a) any reference to the fact that most "Budget" items (Mortgage/Rent/Council tax/Most food/Books/Kids clothes etc etc) are VAT free anyway and then household energy already has a reduced VAT rate of 5% (same for insurance I think).

b) Whilst proposing a luxury goods VAT rate (of 25%) there is no accompanying proposal to reduce the VAT rate on "Budget" items for the "hard Pressed" !! (So how does this help them then?)

The VAT stuff isn't compatible with the EU VAT Directive, so is predicated on us leaving the EU.

If that change was coupled to a reduction in Income Tax and was revenue neutral it might not be a bad policy.

Looks to me like Saint Nigel is also speaking without notes/auto-cue, I could be wrong?

He really does orate to a standard above the rest.

Has Nige said 'owt about ISIS? The only tweet I've sort of half-read seemed to suggest that he said we should commit ground troops?

I caught the last 15 minutes of his speech. He said the sensible thing would be to form a grand coalition with neighbouring countries and have them initiate ground action, with support from ourselves. Bombs alone do little, he suggested (as seen in Libya where the parliament now meets on a boat at sea apparently.)

He has consistently said that we should not get involved.
In his speech today Nigel said:
The PM wanted to arm the rebels in Syria a year ago, these people are now the people he wants to bomb.

A great orator of that there is no doubt. He looks and sounds like a leader too.

If Nige was in Education, he would be headmaster of a top Grammar School.

Continuing the analogy, down the road at the posh public school, Cameron would be the creep of a headboy, with Clegg as his deputy and Milliband as their junior fag.

fk me, those rose-tinted specs must be thick.

Farage would be punching well above his weight to be a headmaster of a Grammar school. Not in some imaginary analogy-land. In real life.

I can't think of two policies that would sum up UKIP's misplaced priorities better than these.

Best soundbite from today...

Nigel Farage "This party is not about left and right - it's about right and wrong."
