They are proposing to raise the VAT rate from 20% to 25%. This will be popular in some circles.
The abolotion of inheritence tax will sweeten the pill for the rest of us.
I can't think of two policies that would sum up UKIP's misplaced priorities better than these. The abolotion of inheritence tax will sweeten the pill for the rest of us.

Looks to me like Saint Nigel is also speaking without notes/auto-cue, I could be wrong?
He really does orate to a standard above the rest.
Cameron is a superb orator, he also appears to be the empty vessel that makes the most noise. Let us hope that the same cannot be said about N. Farage. I'm watching. He really does orate to a standard above the rest.

Just watching BBC news channel before bed. Farage doing a walkabout in a factory somehwere and low paid workers lining up to praise UKIP...
Yeah, it went well didn't it?That car looks to be over the £50k threshold. Oops!
Low paid workers should not have a vote.

A question that I raised in the frothing about the extra vat on expensive cars thread where the usual crowd are talking their usual hypocritical bks.
The upper rate of VAT on luxuries. If this were Labour introducing this there would be all sorts of envy tax comments.
It seems a strange move from UKIP frankly even if you take into account that in VAT terms there are a lot of EU nations with higher standard rates.
But higher rate on luxury goods plus an end to tax free shopping rebates at point of departure for non EU citizens. Isn't that going to hit high spending tourism?
Not convinced about that measure tbh.

Do you think lots of people come from outside the EU on shopping sprees? All those people from Africa, America and the Far East coming over here because of the good prices? After paying almost £2000 to get here, I don't think "Tax Free" really comes into it.Timsta said:

After paying almost £2000 to get here, I don't think "Tax Free" really comes into it.Will it be enough to tip the balance on making the trip or not? Probably not but there would possibly be a shift of spending from one country to another during a European tour. Would it be significant? I don't know and neither do you with respect. What it does do is make Britain a little bit less competitive in the quest for the tourist spend.
Whilst they seem to be a hate figure the Tesco line of every little helps is always appropriate.
Still think it seems an odd thing to do but want to see the whole picture in a proper analysis. Not prepared to give the wholesale kneejerk yay or nay that 'kippers or haters have seem to pronounced in the tribal way.
We need to remove tribalism from politics which applies to all parties. The policies and actions matter. Without that you get peoples' votes being taken for granted and their opinions and problems regarded as of no account ; witness Rotherham and Parris' extraordinary bile re Clacton.
One thing that UKIP and other emergent parties do and have particularly done in some cases is getting people previously disengaged from politics out there and voting. Seats which were safe seats due to tribalism are no longer quite so safe and that frankly is a good thing.
