Apologies if is a repost but one tory I have always rather liked wrote this the other day and having just witnessed the recent Scottish vote it will be interesting to see what strings Cameron tries to pull with his corporate buddies as it appears at least some of his party won't take it favourably..

I think it was posted a couple of days ago, but no one responded.

I personally think Redwood's article stinks. Tin foil hat please....

All UKIP want, once an in/out referendum is secured, is an open an honest debate about our membership within the EU. We have had the Clegg and Farage debates, which Farage may have sneaked a 'win'.

Ultimately we need a debate between Farage and 'whoever the PM is at time of EU in /out referendum'.

Re the added link Jogon, http://www.breitbart.com/Breitbart-London/2014/09/...

I am so looking forward to tomorrow. Hannan is adamant that it is not him to defect, but I am sure UKIP have one more defection up their sleeve to spank CMD with.

Never has politics been so interesting! Must thank Farage and UKIP for this alone, irrespective of ones views on the man or the Party.

Unfortunately he is best known for this:

Oh pleeeeeeeeeeeeeassssssssse let it be Hannan!

He did say he wouldn't follow Reckless.
He won't be, he'll be following Richard Barnes ex dep. Mayor of London!

Edit.
Make that 'following William Cash Jnr' - he's defected to UKIP now!! hehe

David Cameron allegedly said:
The PM reportedly told activists that if Mr Reckless “got off his fat arse and worked harder he wouldn’t have to defect to Ukip to save his skin”.
Is that a tacit admission that Cameron believes Reckless would have lost the election under the Tory flag? Or....

Plenty of politicians in the past have "crossed the floor" without doing so.
That's OK then...
Didn't say it was Ok, gives the lie to your "only real option" line though.
At the risk of being accused of moving the goal posts, which I'm not, my reasoning for it being the only real option is that he's lost the clear mandate to represent his constituents and the right thing to do is force a by-election.

I don't doubt that other politicians with less integrity would cling on until ousted.

How is that a 'defection'? He's not an MP, he's a Journalist.

The majority of politicians, both Westminster and local, who 'cross the floor' do not resign but continue to serve.

It's difficult to find a complete and accurate list with reasons for resigning , or taking the Chiltern Hundreds, in order to force a by election because of a change of alliance. Since 1900 I can only find 5 including Reckless and Carswell. But as mentioned the reasons are not always listed.

The majority are due to ill health or some scandal. There are some who resign on a matter of principle to put things to a vote . For example David Davis resigned to force a by election in protest against 42 day terrorist detention.

On the matter of Hannan's piece, some of those 9 points completely depend upon Brexit. At the start of reading it wondered if he might be trailing part of CMD speech but now suspect not. As always makes excellent points.

Ok, it's not a defection, but Cash hasn't just joined UKIP he actually wants to stand for election in Warwickshire in the GE.

Daddy (Bill) is apparently not happy at all with his son! Said he will be having 'strong words' with him.

Makes the world go round, eh. hehe

On the basis that very few, I suspect, had previously heard of Banks, or his insurance company, a cynic might suggest a rather cost effective brand recognition move for 100k.

Good point!

Let's hope that lots of other multi-millionares see what good value a donation to Ukip represents.

UKIP may or may not have another defector in waiting, but for a party with limited funds and an amateurish image they have dominated the conservatives own conference. If they can follow this up with a win in any of the by elections UKIP will put themselves in a promising position to start the GE as serious contenders.

Neither I nor the media see UKIP as having dominated the Tory conference.

The soundbite that will resonate (other than with you lot) is;

Cameron said:
On May 7 you could go to bed with Nigel Farage and wake up with Ed Miliband. Not one bit of that works for me.

It's such a defeatist campaign but it's the best they can manage with kick it down the road two faced liar at the helm.
