defection news imminent........

Michael Gove?

no, just Arron Banks donating £1m because Tories were rude about him!
Brilliant!

William Hague said:
I’ve never heard of him so we are not going to get too upset about that. It’s certainly not going to overshadow the prime minister’s speech today that someone we haven’t heard of has gone to Ukip.
Arron Banks said:
In light of that and in view of the fact that I am a strong advocate of leaving the EU, I've decided to donate £1million to the party and not the £100,000 originally agreed. Mr Hague will now know who I am.
What Hague should have said:
I'm very sorry to see Mr. Banks leave us. I would like to thank him for his support in the past and I look forward to welcoming him back at some time in the future.
The muppets just don't get it, do they?

Insulting UKIP, and its supporters always backfires.
If that's what they think about people who fund them, and we have seen what they think of people who have been activists, i.e. accept it or sod off, then just what do they think about people who vote for them. See Parris's article for clues

Idiots who will lose.

They know who he is now.

William Hague's snideyness earned UKIP £900k!

(£1m-£100k = £900k).

Nigel will be along shortly to express his gratitude.

Politics has never been so entertaining.

I wonder what will happen tomorrow? The sense of fear in the Conservative party is palpable.

Except it isn't. I have just spent the last 4 days at the Tory conference (one of my partners, poor sod, covered the Labour one) and, whilst the Tories clearly want to warn the electorate of the dangers of UKIP and clearly see them as an electoral issue to be dealt with you couldn't by any objective measure describe them as being in 'fear'

In that case, they are in a state of blissful ignorance.

Another defection or two will fix that.

Exactly.

UKIP have got to where we are despite the media, not because of it.

There are certainly a few of then who fear UKIP. A presenter on the news this morning asked a few Tories on the way to the conference if they feared UKIP and the answer was yes.

Today was a disappointment for UKIP in that I think they were let down at the last minute by another defector the £1m donation looked like an attempt to save face after pulling the press over.

Sykes mentions 8 or 9 had said yes on c4 news the other night and one might now have lost his nerve but Clacton looks in the bag and now they can throw the kitchen sink at Heywood and Middleton, if they can get that then it blows the whole Tory argument of vote UKIP get Labour out the water.

Anyone fancy a trip up to Manchester on the weekend?!

If UKIP don't realise the power of the press to destroy them, they are more naive - and have shorter memories - than I thought. 1992 election anyone?

In the past, i would agree with you, but i am not sure that's true today?

Every time somebody attacks UKIP, their support sees to grow as people don't like the bullyboy agenda.

The world is rather different now than in 1992. Half of the news is now made up of real time comments from the public watching it.

What press have you been reading during the last couple of years??

UKIP have been attacked from the left, right and centre continuously, and we are getting stronger day by day.

I would say that the press' attitude to UKIP has ranged between dis-interested and mildly indulgent. They have picked on some of the more extreme behaviours/views but, beyond that, they've tended to focus on mainstream politics.

I'm not sure about the 'stronger day by day' comment. Certainly, they are nowhere near having the political impact that the SDP had in the early 80's and, in the end, they had next to no impact on the result of the '83 or '86 elections and UKIP & the Lib Dems combined are less well placed to have an electoral impact in 2015 than the Lib Dems had in 2010.

I think also, one of the challenges that they will have is in bringing forward a credible manifesto to take to the country in May. It's ok to be a single issue party some months out from the election but, come Feb/Mar, the pressure will be on to have something solid to say on health, education, the economy, housing, employment etc, etc and I think that will be a challenge - and one the press will exploit if UKIP keep antagonising them

press antagonising UKIP more-like......think you will find the public regard the press in about as high a regard as they do politicians.

What no complaints about Boris comparing defectors to UKIP with people who have sex with vacuum cleaners?
