Another day and no Pro Yes supporter will discuss the CBI rubbishing the white paper by calculating all the extras SNP are promising.
Any pro No's or fence sitters want to discuss?
Welsh, do you have a link to the CBI report?Any pro No's or fence sitters want to discuss?
What were the main points, I recall they said it was all unfunded or similar?

Of course we get a choice, nobody has any power to force it to happen. Equally there is no logic for us to do it. Other European countries are more jealous of our staying out of it than anything else.
I think you under estimate the power of the EU, You do however recognise the jealousy that will motivate them.NoNeed said:

They have found at least a £0.7billion black hole in the white paper.

must admit i thought the cost of duplicating all the civil service functions and armed services etc. would cost a shed load more than 0.7bn.
perhaps this was just the additional promised welfare etc. costs?
i recall the new embassies alone were to cost about £200m.
This is purely the extras in the White paper. perhaps this was just the additional promised welfare etc. costs?

So also add in Uni fees c£0.3billions
Etc
List of questions for Pro Yes as in what extra over status quo will it cost
1. debt interest
2. Cost of duplicating all the civil servants as in loss of economies of scale
3. State pensions cost - you have a higher demographic than rUK
4. Impact of loss of Clyde orders as they are moved to rUK
5. Cost of decommissioning the oil rigs £35billions?
6. Loss of UK subsidy to the renewables within Scotland
7. Potential impact of the loss of the islands be it they go it alone from you or elect to stay in rUK
8. Cost to your Scottish businesses if no currency union
1. debt interest

Anyone else banned on this changeover?
It is amusing to see that the number of pro-Yessers that have new membership durations, low post counts but high post counts in these threads. The cyber-Nats obviously think e are important. It is very flattering. It is a pity they can't find anyone with even a whisker of a logical, well constructed, fact-based argument to send over.

I have consistently given a good and logical reason for leaving the UK.
And nobody has been able to prove me wrong.
We will get rid of the DVLA
Okay it will plunge the entire country into a left wing control freak hell hole so on balance i'm still leaning towards a NO,

1. There will be no debt. not having it. No Siree.
2. Won't happen, ner ner ner ner ner. We'll still get free use of what will be a foriegn countries setup. In fact, you'll have to pay us to use them.
3. The English will pay them because they owe us big time for the sheep they killed in 1321 or something.
4. Of course the RN will continue to build ships on the Clyde even though it will be illegal to tender outside the EU.
5. Er, we'll be like Norway and they have rigs and anyway, erm, yeah.
6. No, you've got it all wrong sonny, they'll make a massive profit so no subsidies needed.
7. No, that's wrong. The Shetlands are Scottish, always have been so they can't have a vote like we did and just because Lerwick is the same distance from Edinburgh as we are from London and they didn't vote for us, no, hang on wait......
8. Bluff. Scaremongering. You're being all Jockist there matey. Just because all 3 potential chancellors have said no chance doesn't actually mean no chance. See?

I guess you aren't familiar with the Maastricht treaty then, where the opt-out makes it clear that the decision to join, should it ever be taken, lies with the UK Government and not with the EU.
And even if we were forced to join the Euro (by political/negotiation means as opposed to raw 'thou shalt join the Euro now'), I would suggest it highly likely that the UK would leave the EU and keep the Pound before sharing monetary policy with the geographical and economic extremities of the Eurozone.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
