Or, 5 years and give us a say south of the border. If Scotland wants its independence, then let England vote on it. That's the quickest and most reliable way out of the union.
Nah - when it comes to nationalists - the only thing that would be worse than losing an independence referendum - would be winning it thanks to English voters biggrin
That would be one sweeeeeeet victory. biggrin

Well - it does appear to confirm one thing......in Salmond's mind at least - a vote for independence truly is a vote for the SNP.
It wouldn't surprise me if he considers each yes vote a ringing indictment of him rather than the politics of it.

http://news.sky.com/story/1305878/yes-vote-should-...

Sky News said:
Scotland's sports minister has told Sky News she expects British taxpayers and the National Lottery to continue funding athletes competing in a Scottish Olympic team in the event of a "Yes" vote in the independence referendum.

The sporting impact of independence will be thrown into sharp focus today when Scottish athletes march behind the Saltire at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Should Scotland vote for independence, Scottish teams will become a fixture of major events, entering future Olympics and World Championships as separate teams and ending the association with Team GB.

The funding implications of independence for sport are uncertain, but Scotland's Secretary for Sport Shona Robison told Sky News she expected the British exchequer and Lottery to continue funding athletes north of the border.

"We are entitled to a share of UK Sport funding because it is part of UK government funding, just as we would look to negotiate a share in the same way we would look at defence spending and foreign affairs spending," Ms Robison said.

"So we would want a share of that UK Sport funding to support Scottish Olympic and Paralympic athletes. We have also already set out that we would like the Lottery to continue as it does.

"We contribute our fair share to the Lottery, perhaps slightly more, so we will seek for that to continue."
roflroflroflrofl

Another Scottish politician who doesn't now how an independent country operates.

The British taxpayer isn't going to fund anything for an Independent Scotland and neither will the National Lottery, clues in the title there love. Camelot has a licence to run a lottery in the UK only. Scotland will have to set up it's own Lottery.

There is the Euromillions lottery run by France's Française des Jeux, Spain's Loterías y Apuestas del Estado and the United Kingdom's Camelot but Scotland will have to join the Euromillions consortium first and then it will only get it's share based on Scottish Euromillions ticket sales.

Oh yeah we will just sit here in England Alex and underwrite your economy once you go your own way, in your fking dreams pal. Those folk on the Mersey ferry wont be prepared to cough up one red cent from their taxes to fund your great experiment old son.

Independence means just that, if a government tried to pull a currency union with a newly independent Scotland there would be mass outrage down here, after the insults and anti English sentiment we have seen from North of the border.
In practical terms, a currency union is a daft idea if you want independence. A foreign country setting your budgets and tax rates.

In practical and political terms, it's a daft idea if you live in the rUK. Bankrolling a foreign nation who intends to go down a more left wing tax/spend route.

The only framework in which a currency union makes sense is politically for Alex Salmond, as an attempt to minimise the change required after a Yes vote so keep as many voters on side as possible. It's also another area where Salmond can argue against the "Wastemonster elite" so scores him brownie points with his core support.

Well some Sudanese farmer is suing the UK Govt for sending aid to Sudan (on UK Legal aid presumably). So it'd be no surprise to see iScotland suing us for former abuses and the Barnet formula. If they fail to get legal aid they can always use a no win no fee outfit.

You'll have to do it quickly, I think the voter registration thing is soon.

You can stay at my house and vote yes for a few grand, think it's worth it? biggrin

That's funny - I expect Scarlet Johansen to knock round at my house any second wearing her one piece leather outfit from the Avengers - hand me a cheque for £2 million, the keys to a 2014 Aston Martin V12 Vantage Roadster........and a Big Mac Meal.

Something tells me my expectations may be a little out of whack though.

Currently it seems to me that the majority of Scots aren't chippy buttheads, this referendum should be confirmation of this. If I'm wrong then the chippy victims will win and be off anyway.

We could sue Scotland back for abuse. Damaging property (Wembley 1977), Susan Boyle, Bagpipes, Golf.

He still thinks he'll be using Sterling?

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-07-22/salmond-d...

article said:
“People of Scotland know full well we’ll keep sterling because it’s in the best interests of Scotland and the best interests of the rest of the United Kingdom,” Salmond said in the interview. “We’re very happy to take a share of the liabilities but of course we’re equally entitled to a proper share of the assets.”
scratchchin reckon.

article said:
“We’re keeping sterling,” Salmond said. “Why talk about plans B, C, D, E and F when plan A is the best proposition?”
Also perchance because you don't have a credible plan B or it would be a guaranteed vote loser? I honestly thought at this point they'd be giving some detailed proposals out. What a mug!

I have a theory that the SNP are seriously worried by the polls. A late swing could still result in a "Yes" vote with which they'd be completely stuffed and probably have to go on the run within 6 months for fear of lynch mobs or criminal proceedings for lying.

Therefore, all SNP spokespeople have been ordered to say even more stupid and propestrous things in the run up to the vote to ensure a No.

Remember to use the words "freedom", "oppression" and "occupying power". A reference to Wings over Soctland(based in Bath) is compulsory.

Bonus points for 'witty' name changes such as "Wastemonster". The more infantile, the better.

All references to "Tories", "Eton" or "Toffs" gain a million bonus groats, although these will be rescinded if you include any actual content in your response.
