Scottish Referendum / Independence - Vol 5
Discussion
Both spectators and England competitors are displaying the union flag in the velodrome! I'll go get a photo if anyone doubts this. Admittedly there are far more st George's crosses but that's not the point.
On the other hand, I witnessed a spectator being told to put his Scottish flag away in sochi.

Not my rule, Commonwealth Games Rule, only the flags of competitors allowed in the venues.
So; no Union Jacks, no Stars and Stripes, no KwikFit flags...
SOURCE PLEASESo; no Union Jacks, no Stars and Stripes, no KwikFit flags...
6.17. any flags or banners larger than 1 metre x 2 metres,
or with lightweight handles longer than 1 metre,
and/or flags normally associated with
(i) countries not participating in the Games or
(ii) causes, affiliations or organisations;.
The UK is not participating, and the Union Jack is not the Commonwealth of Nations' flag.
It hasn't been the British Commonwealth for quite some time.

Just putting this out there:
The Commonwealth of nations consists of 53 member states......one of those listed is "The United Kingdom".

So even though the component countries of the UK are allowed to compete separately - England, Scotland, Wales and NI aren't listed as members individually.
It therefore follows that competitors are actually competing as UK/England, UK/Scotland etc - and so the union flag does in effect represent them all.
The nats are trying to make out that the only reason someone could be waving a union jack is to make a political statement and it shouldn't be allowed at the games. They're really boring like that. The Commonwealth of nations consists of 53 member states......one of those listed is "The United Kingdom".

Maybe people just waving a saltire should be considered nationalist bigots.

There is no "Team GB" in the Commonwealth Games. Fact.Edit: Flag willie waving aside.
Genuine question for you.
If an iScotland is going to be so wealthy. Why did John Swinney write that an independent Scotland will have to cut benefits and spending on defence? As they can't afford it.

That refers to the Union Jack as part of another flag, such as Australia's. As you know.
It's inappropriate for the stand alone Union Jack to be flown at the games, just as the Chinese, the Russian and Brazilian flags have no place at the games.
End of.

You are correct as there will be no navy ships at the games.
The Union Flag however is allowed.
Lol I said that ages ago and someone shared a source which said that's an out of date view and it can be called the Union Flag or the Union Jack and the old sea faring requirements are outdated. Or something like that. The Union Flag however is allowed.

That's just plain silly. On two fronts. The Commonwealth of nations consists of 53 member states......one of those listed is "The United Kingdom".
