I can't see the point, Salmond will just come out with the usual "Project Fear" bks and not answer any questions. I'll wait for the highlights I think.

Just seen on the news that parking at hospitals is presently free in Scotland and Wales.

Does this mean in the event of a Yes vote and the SNP's quest for a fairer society, that the Scots will have to start paying too..?

Oh, thought not.
Strange I guess I must have been sleep driving into Ninewells a month ago as I'm SURE it was £2 for 4 hours....maybe it was all those free fillings I get at the dentist..Oh hang on last time it was £25 that's right...readit

I never mentioned dental treatment, but phew, what a relief you don't get free parking. There was me thinking we were being treated differently, when all along the UK was indeed United - as one.

We'll forget about the care for the elderly, free education and parliamentary voting rights shall we?
You HAVE checked ^^those^^ "facts" right?

hehe

The only reason Salmond wanted these 'debates' is so he can have a televised soap box as a last ditch attempt to turn voters heads at the last possible second - hence the reason they have been left so late.

It's nothing more than a televised Yes campaign stand.

No, you're right about the parking at Ninewells.

Maybe you should get a free eye test at your optician though!
Last time I had a free one in Oakham wink that turned out quite groooovy as a mater of fact.

I had 'keyhole surgery' on my knee at Raigmore. When I woke up from the anaesthetic and saw the bloody huge incision on my knee they weren't impressed with my groggy question; "What size keys do you use? I'd hate to carry your fking keyring!"

This one should do.

Nearly all revenues - apart from alcohol and cigs - are lower in Scot than England, which are both higher than Wales & NI. The oil revenue looks large here but remember it is per capita on his graph - so on the UK bar (with 60m peeps) it is much smaller than for the Scot (5m).

England income tax is massively bigger than elsewhere (when multiplied up by 55m) but its all shared around. The same applies to oil, but to a lesser extent.

This is the really ugly thing about the Nationalist myth that it's "Scotland's oil". Well, much more revenue is England's income tax, but that is shared around the UK without anyone jumping up and down trying to e.g. ditch Wales and NI. Ironically, England can teach the Nationalists more about fairness and equality than in reverse, the cheeky charlatans!

That will be a guesstimate at best.

My income tax is paid through a London tax office. I assume thousands if not millions of people are in the same boat is tax paid through the tax office of their employer which leads to misleading figures such as those.

I've asked before if this correct data exists and I'm repeatedly told it doesn't. Convenient?

Better to look at spending per head by region (2012/13):

£10,876 - Northern Ireland
£10,152 - Scotland
£9,709 - Wales
£9,435 - London
£9,419 - North East
£9,252 - North West
£8,610 - Yorkshire and the Humber
£8,529 - England
£8,498 - West Midlands
£8,219 - South West
£8,118 - East Midlands
£7,865 - East
£7,638 - South East

Let's remember that the top three areas have the sparsest populations...

So those of us in the South East pay more for most things yet receive the least from the pot we're paying into. Nice.

In my view, higher education should be free for all students. The Scottish view is also that it should be - and is - free to Scottish students.

Other areas choose to charge for university education so we have to charge students from those areas otherwise we'd have an unsustainable influx of students for free education.

I reposted about this recently. You should ask why your government chooses to charge rather than why the Scots do what they do.

...indeed, you're catching on.

So public services cost more per head in Scotland, ceterus paribus.

Then we are able to spend more on top of that, too.

We've been through this before, too, and I've answered you thusly:

If more favourable data for Scotland existed, you can bet your bottom groat that the SNP/yes camp would've had it splattered all over the papers and websites.

Are you using uncertainty over tax receipts as a reason to vote yes? I hope not.

Surely we are all agreed that:
Scotland taxes more than the UK with oil receipts
Scotland spends more than the UK.
Independence costs money as a one-off and ongoing.
Independence will cause uncertainty and likelihood of reduced tax receipts.

Surely this would be more than offset by the thousands of UK small businesses like mine who are based in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland but who process their on-line PAYE using Cumbernauld?
