It was Salmond who kept referring to the Tories, Westminster, and how he thought Darling was in bed with the Conservatives.

Darling was just pointing out that he disagreed with the bedroom tax that Salmond had previously just used as evidence that Scotland shouldn't be associated with rUK.

Considering this is a major national interest how come Cameron and Clegg aren't stepping up to the plate?
It is most surprising. Cameron has most to gain from a yes vote, if he was self serving he'd be up there, I dare say wearing his Eton uniform & top hat to make Salmond explode !
Then Tories would walk the next election due to all those labour seats disappearing & we'd get the entertainment of Salmonds meltdown. win win

The chair was notable by his absence.

Good point on that one, but it did allow Salmond to prove to us he was born without the embarrassment chip.

No, he just seemed less of a yesser than the last one did.

Salmond did much better tonight, but I still can't see how people can vote yes.
Of course, if you`re dealing with the gullible general public who feel `aggrieved` and you have the better oratory skills, as Salmond has then it`s easy to see how people will vote.

Will be interesting to see how Salmond interacts with the camera this time.

Last time Salmond was acting as if he was in a boy band.. You know the ones.... They all sit on bar stools and then raising to hight of the song stand up and walk towards the audience arms open.
Salmond did this numerous times - walk away from the lectern - and try puppy eyes and arms open..

It didn't work. Style over substance.

One thing is clear though - Aliens will not be part of the debate. Alex wrongly assumed that the audience would find it amusing.
Well... I was right - they boy band act was in full swing smile

A lot of Nats are frothing about Alex asking if Darling would support a currency union after Yes - seemingly to think it is a clever or revealing question as Darling stumbled to answer. Of course he stumbles to answer the question "which of these st options is your favourite?". Err, but they are all st, so none, vote No for crying out loud!

Then Alex jumped on "we can use the pound" - ah, ah, ah! Darling says we can use the pound, knowing full well he only meant in the panama/financial suicide way.

It is pathetic.

At one point I found myself wanting a Yes vote.

I reckon the younger the demographic the more likely to be 'yes' oriented.
Most people I know that are around my age (22) are voting no.

The yes voters don't really take an interest in politics / economics so are just voting yes because their mates are.

That is a small sample to be fair, but it seems to be a pretty similar story with most people I have asked.

As for the 16 year old voters, that will probably be a different story.

Actually want a Yes vote

Why - one reason out of many.
1. Alex pushing hard that there is £25billion of cuts to come next year - um we as UK have over £100billion deficit two options cut or increase taxes.

Being in power isn't easy you have to make tough decisions there is a limited budget and the wish list is vastly longer than what can be afforded so you have to choose what happens or doesn't.

What happens if Scotland go Indy and join EU and they fail to negotiate not joing the Euro? What about Schengen? What about cross boarder pension fund deficits needing funding on day 1 of Indy.

So latest info is Scotland is spending £10billion more a year (defecit) than it generates.

What are Scotland going to cut to close the gap as from the debate they are very against any austerity and want to spend more? Given we are a United Kingdom if they want to spend more do they want the Welsh to subside them or the N Irish or the English? Just who do they want to suffer more pain ?

No question about cost of supermarket goods going up - confirmed by main retailers if it was a Yes vote

Alex responded to every audience comment - except the Royal Mail.... Hmm

Using the pound without permission is insane though isn't it? Especially for a new country that will (for a period at least) be in a financially difficult position.

Oh dear Scotland what was that. It appeared to be two 3rd rate politcians from a 3rd world country debating pointless subjects with a wild audience. If it had some silly accents it would have looked like a Fast Show sketch.

Pretty much all of it was pointless. Here today - gone tomorrow political issues like a Bedroom Tax or DLA rules are not relevant when discussing the next 50, 100 or 200 years. This was small time politics being discussed with silly points scoring over any reasoned relevant debate. Salmond, Darling, BBC Scotland and Scotland as a whole should be ashamed of it.

As for Salmond's vision of an independent Scotland it seems to be some sort of rogue state on the edges of Europe with a reckless default to its name using someone else's currency and pleasing benefit receivers by sticking their fingers up at the English for the 3 months before all the money runs out. Presumably, after that, the bankrupt Scotland will blame it on all England for retaining the Malvinas.

I don't know what the result will be - despite all the logical arguments against I've always thought Scotland might vote Yes - but if I lived in Scotland tonight and had even half a brain I would be absolutely stting myself.

So Panama one means no lender of last resort, no control over interest rates etc.
Pegging, is a stupid idea.
Euro? Don't you need to meet certain criteria for that?
