On the "British" thing, I feel British and describe myself as so. Or Scottish. I'm not even sure what I say when foreigners ask me, I think I say Scottish tbh.
As an Englishman I'm the opposite, I refer to myself as 'From the UK', rarely British and try to avoid calling myself English, or if I do I would qualify it with being a northerner. Why is being British so complicated. bigkeeko said:
On the latest poll news.
I can`t say I`m surprised. Facebook and youngsters has a lot to answer for. I`ve never read so much complete sh**e in my life from young dopey Yes voters. Yesterday my girlfriends teenage son came in to the house and blurted out "They say Scotland will be rich if we vote yes". Now he`s young, stunned, clueless and full of nonsense. Add that to immature and lacking in any kind of political or economic understanding and like most young people, subject to peer pressure and we`re looking at a trump card from Salmond with the lowered age for voting.
Now, two days before, my niece, who is well educated (ish) works in the bank and has always been level headed come out with this gem. "I`m voting yes because the No argument revolves round condemning the Yes campaign. The Yes campaign is more appealing and No offers nothing."
It appears to me that the young and impressionable will decide this. In truth, it is the Yes campaign that has misled Scotland by telling people that anything good that we have now as part of the UK will not change but everything bad will disappear. This just insults the older voters intelligence, especially ones who have thought things through and as we all know, teenagers and the young NEVER think things through.

But you don't know what cuts will be needed as you or I can't predict what deals would be made and what the financial situation will be leading up to independence (not that it will ever happen).
Deals? You want separation you've got it its not like being relegated from premiership with its balloon payments. Day 1 over to you (or actually 19/9 over to you funding cut by £1billion a month so that we don't lose a further £18billion that rUK old pensioners the disabled the nurses being cut etc all to pay for the very nice action SNP are forcing rUK to do.

I said it right from the start of this process that giving 16 year olds the vote was an SNP ploy to take advantage of the idealistic nature of teens.I can`t say I`m surprised. I wouldn't be at all surprised if this vote is swung on that basis......guess we won't have long to find out.
The polls have a huge margin for error in independence debates. For general elections, they can calibrate any bias in their sample size by asking how you voted in the previous election. Given they know what the outcome of that actually was, they can adjust the results to accommodate, say, an overweight sample of Conservative voters. For a referendum on independence, they have no previous data on which to adjust. The polls are wrong - we just don't know how wrong.
I suspect they might favour the "Yes" vote. It is easy to show bravado and say "yes" to a pollster - make a point to those in "Wastemonster" that you are sick of them and their policies. SHout loudly to your friends that you are not a feartie and will tick the Yes box. In the privacy of the polling booth, life is rather different - and, if in doubt, tick "No".
The reality is this has become too close to call.
I am shocked and saddened that there are so many fools in Scotland who cannot see that what a disaster this will inflict on their proud nation and are so credulous as to believe the lies and half-truths being peddled by the Yes camp.

the amount of hatred and stupidity from the yes side have really got me. a recent comment on facebook (which was shot down within minutes and then deleted):
Just been told that if you dont vote, it counts as a no vote, just keep that in mind, #yes
however, if anyone would like a chance to ask mr salmond some questions, I've just been e-mailed to say a Q&A with Salmond is being hosted by Dennis Canavan at the Park Hotel in Camelon, Falkirk, tonight at 7:00pm. (space limited, so need to arrive early). I cant make it, but maybe some from here might be able to get there and ask some awkward questions.

At what time on the 19th will the result be announced, has that been confirmed yet?
They can't say with certainty as it depends on how quickly each area can count and verify their results. If there have to be recounts - it could take a while. Are they even counting by constituency or simply announcing an overall result for Scotland?
If it works like a general election - the BBC may do what they normally do and compile a running total - we may know the result before all areas have declared though.
If there is a good chance of a very close yes/no result say 49% Yes and 51% No then I think Police Scotland better give Boris / Met Plod a bell and see if they can borrow their water cannon as there is a good chance they might need them. I would hope Scot Plod already have plans in place for such an eventuality.

I'd imagine an overall result first with some dissemination afterwards, I can't wait to see the breakdown of various locations, rich/poor etc and how they voted. Are they even counting by constituency or simply announcing an overall result for Scotland?

Then we can see the true peaceful side of the YESAnd Salmond will not say a word against them

There're jobs for me near Toronto in Canada.
I've never been there but I hear it's nice.
I'm a sparky/intrument tech/programmer, money behind us, no criminal record and a clean bill of health - jobs a plenty!I've never been there but I hear it's nice.
I wonder if taking my job with me would work in my favour in gaining entry abroad?
