Oh please banghead

The majority can't speak English when they arrive at school. Would you like me to write it out in crayons or can you really not see the problem here?

I'll credit you with some intelligence and assume you're simply being intentionally obtuse...
'majority' of what?

Apparently, and even though I live here I'm surprised by this, 1/3 children in peterborough do not speak English as a primary language.
Like last time, I may not get an answer to this but I'll ask anyway......

These children in Peterborough, do you know if they're capable of speaking English?
According to the head teachers it provides "additional challenges". I'd assume they're sufficiently qualified to answer and am happy with their evaluation.

It certainly makes sense.

It would seem there are not enough to avoid providing "additional challenges" in the classroom.

That can't be good for standards.

So you don't actually know?. Ok thanks.

P.s. any links to the Peterborough non-English speaking students? I'm interested in finding out more about the challenges they pose.

You say that, yet of the schools with the highest percentage of pupils for whom English is a second language, 9 put of 10 are classed as either 'good' or 'excellent' by OFSTED.

Essentially Bliarout thinks that if you weren't born speaking the queens English then your a trouble maker and going to cause issues in the classroom.

Pop quiz, does he think this because:

a) he has a in depth knowledge of pedagogy and how varying language skills effect life outcomes.

or

b)he's a racist

Haven't you got some Welsh people to insult?

I usually ignore you because, well because you're a bit of a sad tt but here's a challenge for you, find a single post by me where I've said "all x people are xxx".

I'll save you some time, you won't find a single post where I have...

I am sure we'll never agree on this thread, but that doesn't mean we can't kick the metaphorical stuffing out of each other politely thumbup

You're well known for your politeness and being an all-round good egg, Winston (why was it you changed your name again?)

Tell you what. It's not far down the road from Peterborough to Leicester where they carried out a similar experiment with Ugandan Asians. Back in the 60's Leicester council placed adverts in the Ugandan press telling the Asians not to come, because it was "full" (sic). I remember the worries that the 'huge influx' of Asian children, who couldn't speak english as a first language and the intolerable stress it would place on schools, the NHS and queues in the Coop etc etc.

Funnily enough, before that there was a similarly 'huge influx' of Polish people to Leicester just after WW2 - escaping communism - who couldn't speak english either which caused the same concerns at the time. And before that there was the 'huge influx" of Jews (yep, you know who's grandpa). This was going to place a similarly intolerable burden on the city from which from which it would never ever recover...

Of course, since then, the children of these people with poor english have proven to be a huge burden on the state by setting up vast businesses empires, flourishing as doctors, lawyers, educators and the rest. As an experiment, Leicester has proven to be an utter disaster and heaven forbid that Peterborough should go the same way.

(You could look on the bright side, though, maybe an influx of new DNA might be of benefit out there on the fens...).

I'm afraid you're gonna be disappointed, it has nothing whatsoever to do with you...

So, are you saying there's a problem with everyone who is born in a certain place? Do you really think that is wise?

I'm curious, what did you actually mean by your comment about the DNA of people born in the fens then? Are you suggesting that all people born there have a problem of some sort?

That's definitely the mindset of a racist...

Hang on, if UKIP are drawn to extremist bedfellows in the EU.

How does this make sense?

"Farage found himself embroiled in a row with the French Front National leader, Marine Le Pen after he called her party antisemitic. Last week Farage rejected a suggestion from Le Pen that Ukip could join a coalition with the FN in the European parliament, citing "prejudice and antisemitism" in her party – although he also said Le Pen had "some good qualities" and was "achieving remarkable things".

From the grauniad article linked to on the other thread.
Farage has a rival right-wing group in Europe that attracts more than £1m funding from the EU. Le Pen is threatening to steal members and funding from his group by the growth of her own.

It isn't that Le Pen threatens Farage's principles, it's that she threatens his wallet.
