It's one of Zygy Troll's stock questions.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but UKIP got about 10% share of the vote in the last general election. Please remind me how many MP's they got.

Yes, it'll be fun in the next GE watching UKIP candidate after UKIP candidate get shot down in flames for saying stupid things, posting racist comments on twitter etc etc.

All of today's column inches are about the racist comments made against Lenny Henry by the UKIP candidate for Enfield.

The resident trolls here only care about their own column inches here.

Genuine posters such as BV and 10PS genuinely contribute to the discussion. Whilst disagreements can get heated, the fact that discussions are occurring and indeed getting heated is a good thing.

UKIP are, raison d'être aside, livening up UK politics. People are talking about who we vote for, and why, to run our country more so than I can ever recall.

In the context of his reply to Lenny Henry's recent lobbying, in what way were the comments racist?

I know this story well, so think carefully before you reply! smile

I Can really respect Farage as a pollie. He is one of the best operators around in terms of selling an ideal to supporters.

Doesn't mean I like what he is selling.

Do you genuinely think the people posting in these threads (UKIP-bashers to coin a phrase) are actually scared of UKIP?

I can't talk for the others but personally I'm just laughing at UKIP and their supporters for providing us with gaff after gaff. To me Farage is nothing but a harmless cartoon villain. Roaming around pubs in his blazer swigging beer to show he's "one of us".

He wants to shun the establishment but the truth is he's a career politician who has mighty ideals but doesn't stand by them (how does his EU pension help us get out of Europe exactly?)

It's a shame because there are some sound politics that deep down I agree with but it's wrapped up in xenophobia and supported by people I really do not want to be associated with. A quick scan of any social media about UKIP will show the true foul (and illiterate) colours.

Strange isn't it. Nothing but vitriol news about UKIP everywhere, but the polls just keep riding in their favour.

Do you think ordinary people (Jo Public) have woken up at last that the no longer will be brainwashed by the media and spin and bad mouthing?

Now leading Labour in the Euro Election polls.

Oh it's so funny. All the others, like those anti on here, all squirming and turning and hurling insults.

Bloody hilarious.

I can see this getting so dirty it will be unbelievable. But it won't work. Just come back from lunch in local and it's what most are talking about, and even a surprise to me those at the bar who now thinking similar and changing the vote habits of lifetimes. Why? Because they no longer feel as if they're alone in their thoughts ...they're going to get aboard the Kipper train.

Oh it's so funny... Why? I'm in CAMERON LAND ...I'm talking about... WITNEY!!!

Are you saying that no UKIP candidates have ever posted racist comments?

Are you saying that the Enfield candidate didn't make racist comments?

UKIP is an avowedly non-racist and non-sectarian party. Until UKIP deals with the issue of racism and their singular failure to vet racist candidates properly, this will remain a running sore. And if UKIP aren't seen to deal with it, they will be seen as hypocrites. The issue of racism in UKIP is similar to the problem Labour had with Militant Tendency, back in the 80's and 90's - if they don't deal with it, they will continue to be a safe haven for racist opinions and the racists will win.

One can only wonder why you don't want UKIP to flush out hypocrites and racists.

Nope, but if that fantasy makes you hard, be my guest.

My £100 wager stands. Step up and take the bet?
What wager was that?

I pay little attention to your i'm morally superior rants.

How about i start a wager

UKIP can have zero MPs and still influence tory party policy

One thing I genuinely don't understand : where is the single UKIP supporter who says "yep, we have an image problem caused by a (tiny) minority of xenophobes; we have to get better at background checking our candidates / advertising, and make it plain that racism is a big no-no".

There's a lot of talk about smears and spin, but surely if you want to win seats in a general election, you would be seriously concerned at stopping the bad PR at the source, ie from within the party.

I think Mr Farage has said that, and done that....

As a 'start-up' party with high growth, it is very difficult to keep a 100% clean sheet.

If you can't understand why the comments might be seen as racist, then there's not much point arguing with you. If you have information that the papers haven't published, let us know what it is. (Please don't tell us he was misquoted and he was telling Lenny to go back to the black country…).

I'll tell you what, let's wait and see what UKIP party central says about it, eh? Then, when he's been thrown out or reprimanded, we can discuss it again.
