Italian righty types almost drown (and, worse, end up in Malta) in inspired attempt to show that crossing the Med by small boat is a piece of Panettone. Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of guys!

The Lega Nord, BTW, whose many claims to fame include a call by one of its MEPs for ethnic segregation on the buses in Milan, has a staunch ally in a certain UK political party beloved of PH. As they used to say in an older version of Italy that ran a sort of European integration project for a while, noscitur a sociis.

What is interesting is the far right is expanding all over Europe as a direct consequence of the EU and their liberal policy's, making fun of them does not address the reasons for the worrying rise.

Hilarious. Learn the difference between the EU and Europe...they are NOT one and the same thing. How can you make such assertions?!

The main point of the story is that it affords an opportunity to laugh at the idiocy of some idiots doing some idiotic stuff. As a secondary point, it so happens that these are the same idiots that Saint Nige consorts with politically. Those who choose to think that the fact that he willingly allies himself with Neo Fascist nutjobs is irrelevant are, of course, free to do so.

I thought your point was more about Malta, tbh.

You think racism needs EU policies to thrive?

Not sure that is entirely correct.

I agree with you, though. We should not make fun of them, nor laugh at them. These are seriously dangerous people. They should be exposed as such.

Well, of course, but even a 'kipper doesn't need that written out in crayon, surely?

I went to Gozo once. That was nice. It was the island I've been to that most sounds like a Muppet. Apart from Kermit, just off the coast of Croatia.

I may have made that up.

Only Godwin prevents me from mentioning someone else that we used to laugh and poke fun at. Ridiculing hateful idiots is one (not the only) way of responding to them.

Actually BV, I think you may have stumbled upon something. 'Kippers like sunny holidays, but hate Jonny Foreigner. They need a holiday advice thread. I'll go first...

Dear Breadvan,

My wife and I are going to Kefalonia in June. We will be taking enough British food for the week, but am worried in case we run out. Can we make those smelly Greeks take our Pound Sterling or do we simply starve?

Exactly my thoughts on our current prime minister and others in Westminster with their vile Common Purpose agenda. Do some research on Common Purpose and then come back and say how "dangerous" you feel the Europeans are who are in opposition to mass, uncontrolled immigration. rolleyes

I think the rise in the far right is a byproduct of some EU policy's, history has shown us that high unemployment leads to a rise, take Germany before the second world war, high unemployment people looking for someone to blame, end up with the Holocaust, the euro is destroying a lot of southern EU countries, people will look for someone tô blame.
