Out of all the corruption and rotten elements within the state, it is the systematic coverup of child abuse that sends chills down my spine.

As disgusting as syphoning money off or rigging this and that is, it's the enabling of the most abhorrent of sexual crimes that the proles should really be up in arms about.

Something similar to the White March in Belgium around the time of the Marc Dutroux case. That's a story that still makes me sick to think about.

What was your connection with Cyril Smith, Derek (ie why did the author of the new book question you?)
[Excellent and comprehensive answer to my question]
Thank you for taking the trouble to write all that, Derek.

It is fascinating, but, more importantly, it is an appalling state of affairs.

Many years ago the boys-only school where I taught managed to get Smith to visit the school, to give a lecture to the A-level Politics class. This was seen as something of a coup at the time, but I find myself wondering whether the Headmaster and Head of Politics would have been quite so enthusiastic if they'd known about any of the rumours regarding Smith's background.

Or should you question whether the teacher who proposed him knew?

It's front page news in the DM today (Saturday). Or so my lad, who's a journo, has told me. However, I didn't get a mention.

No need to take the mickey, my son already has.

Clearly a cover up.

Derek your account sounds very similar to a BiB acquaintance who told me something similar about a very famous knighted pop star. That person and their colleagues were told to 'leave it' in the same way as you were.

This is all very unpleasant (CS et al), don't you have the ability to speak to someone about this knight of the realm having been told what you have?

The DM coverage has just been mentioned by Evan Davis on Today.

The photo on the Daily Mail website reminds me of 'Are you ever concerned that people might find you out?':

Though that may fit the Rev. Flowers formerly of the Co-op better?

Can any one answer this question ?
I posted a question regarding procedure for naming arrested people, please note I didn't ask who the person is.
The post was around 6.00pm last night, this morning the post ( and any possible replies ) has completely gone !

My question - Is this normal for PH ?

Apologies for the slight subversion, but I think it is incontext of this thread....

To be fair, I had nothing to leave. I was, for once, an innocent in all of this.

I think it was more of a warning. Someone had identified the facilitator as a problem and she was at risk, and in such situations there is likely to be collateral damage.

Our - we didn't discuss it too much with the woman as she was quite distressed enough - thoughts were that it must be either SB or MI5, with us favouring the latter. There was no way, of course, that MI5 would not be informed at the very least. One might consider that they regarded it as a problem they had to 'manage'.

The information was out there about Smith in any case. I remember reading in the Eye something about it. That must have been before I joined the police as once I did, money for magazines was a luxury I could not afford.

How many 'pop stars' have been knighted? Could we make a list....

Given the widespread knowledge and cover up by the establishment, I don't suppose it would be fair or realistic to wonder if those that were involved in denying it were stripped of any Orders of Chivalry or Peerages they may have since been awarded?

For me it really undermines those that are granted those New Year's Honours List awards when you think of all the wrong 'uns that have managed to gain such awards. I think the people may be good, and done something exceptional to warrant them but then you find out about what some those that have previously been awarded them have done...

I read the DM this morning and am surprised that there haven't been any further comments on this thread.
How awful that nothing was done then and so much damage was done to so many young boys.

Derek Smith, the OP has mentioned it here before. It's not news to a few people here.

Some of the stuff Derek has mentioned reminds me of this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-26388164

Some of the 'it could have been this', 'it could have been that' excuses reeled out read like some of the nonsense trotted out in SP&L. Some people are ready to suggest and think implausible stuff to incriminate people but use similarly bizarre excuses to let off the authorities for their criminality and ineptitude.

Plus there's a former police officer from North Devon doing porridge for historic sex crimes against minors, one of the victims was advised by a police officer that it would be traumatic for them to pursue the matter.

How does that fit with going after DLT and the Deputy Speaker Evans, where some of his 'victims' were told they were victims even if they didn't think they were?

Someone commented on the DM website, that if the people of Rochdale knew what was going on at the time why did they keep re-electing him?

Someone has also made the link to the more recent grooming which I think mentioned the number of Councils across the UK that send kids to that area as there are a lot of private companies taking money from the public sector and are taking advantage of low property prices in the area to set up childrens' homes there.

So in both cases it's about money?

Quite right.

Cover ups extend further than we might have imagined, it seems. In the name of some (tenuous?) legal self-protection or?

You will normally get an email explaining the reason if you've had a post removed.

I don't know but there were a load of posts removed last night naming people they shouldn't be naming so it might have been removed as it was in the middle of all of them, possibly also to remove the temptation for someone to post names again in reply to your question which you had not asked for.
