Det Supt Kenny McDonald - who is overseeing Operation Midland - said officers ... thought his account was "credible and true".
Hopefully supporting evidence from others and some doors kicked in over Christmas.
Finally, it does seem as though there is some real weight being put behind these investigations. Wouldn't it be nice if someone somewhere found a copy of the 'missing dossier' that surely must still exist - if it really were a matter of national security - within intelligence records.

I very much doubt it still exists, but I'm amazed nobody can stand up and say what they saw in it under oath. Certainly it could help corroborate other evidence?

That did occur to me also.

If I understand correctly, original files were hushed up as the matter was considered to be dangerous for national security, and the police and government copies were conveniently lost. However, I did hear one opinion that copies would certainly have been lodged with intelligence services and should still be there.

Update following Derek's comment much earlier in the thread, wondering if the Daily Mail's focus on PIE was the correct way to go:

I suppose that image of an official looking document could have been mocked up for use on the Internet?

He can remember the content, but not even the year? Odd. Would be the kind of thing you could correlate to other life events surely?

I wasn't vouching for it, I was more taken by the scan of an official looking document.

I think if someone is concerned for their pension and making life difficult for others then that could lead to guarded, or evasive responses.

I was sure that the OP, Derek Smith had referenced that video tape and customs officer, but the first result found was FiF's. I am mentioning that to show my memory could be wrong. Earlier in the week I was talking to an elderly relative about an event in my life, prompted by a topic I was talking about with them. They cross referenced it to other things in time, but they're out on the years by at least six.

I found that link from a discussion on Exaro about the validity of the recording with the former customs officer. The discussion was about the number of recordings and what was said, and various posts kicking it back and forth whether the recording had any credence. It referenced a Daily Telegraph article, that may be the one that FiF linked to.

When the Daily Telegraph has carried advertorials from well known and respected journalists promoting the Home Office, NSPCC and modern slavery, therefore I assume pushing Theresa May's Modern Slavery Bill, the issue of independence crops up.

I don't think that is unusual. I can vividly remember things from childhood & youth without being able to tell you the year or my age at the time, such as challenger disaster, a documentary about Manatee being killed and maimed by speeds boats, favourite songs, school disco kiss. Some things can have a big impact enough to be really remembered in detail but remain difficult to place in a specific context.

A Greek chap this morning after their elections said that the fiscal constraints placed on Greece were comparable to water boarding.

Water boarding the former Customs Officer would help him remember?

Regarding the discussion on Exaro about number of taped conversations, whether they're plausible and whether the recording is legitimate and not edited and hacked about, helps muddy the water and add credence to the idea that Brittan was set up by Spooks?

That official looking document about the seizure of the video tape by the Customs Officer at Dover? That could have been knocked up for use on the Internet to help stoke the rumours either way. Equally couldn't that document have been knocked up by Spooks back in the day as part of a possible smear against Brittan?

Said Greek chap must have a different idea of what "waterboarding" is to the majority's knowledge of what it is? hehe

As I think this chap has been linked to abuse of children at Elm House in Barnes, I'll leave this here:

http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/11808669.Trial_of_...

I'm not too sure what to make of the involvement of the police officer father.

There was an article in the MoS last year that opined if he was a frequenter of Elm House then he wasn't the biggest fish visiting there. I wonder if the trial will cover his links to Elm House?

"The Cabinet Office has been accused of attempting to cover up information about Whitehall's knowledge of Cyril Smith's child abuse at the time he was granted a knighthood.

The documents revealed that Margaret Thatcher was made aware of allegations involving the Liberal MP before he was given the honour.

The papers, released to the Mail of Sunday following repeated demands for disclosure, also show that the country's most senior civil servant wrote to the director of public prosecutions to find out why Smith did not face justice for alleged offences against teenage boys.

The newspaper first requested the documents under the Freedom of Information Act in April last year but they were only released on Friday following an intervention by the Information Commissioner"

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greate...

"MARGARET THATCHER was warned Cyril Smith had been accused of sexually abusing eight boys before she granted the Liberal MP a knighthood, government papers reveal.

The release of the documents follows evidence that she ignored warnings about other prominent paedophiles, including Sir Peter Morrison, a close aide, and the former diplomat Sir Peter Hayman.

Thatcher also insisted on a knighthood for Jimmy Savile, the BBC presenter exposed after his death as one of Britain’s most prolific abusers.

According to the government papers released under freedom of information laws, the political honours scrutiny committee (PHSC) raised concerns when Smith was nominated for a “K” in 1988."

smile Good work Information Commissioner! This is more like it.

Now let's do some overclocking to speed up time and get a few more before they pass away.

And do something about that bloke getting that job in Brum after his form at Rotherham.

Danczuk is also pretty clear that both Cameron and in particular Clegg have some questions to answer about the Cabinet office covert up. Clegg accused of blocking things on five occasions. If true this is a bombshell so close to an election.
