We have similar issues here in the USA with fundamentalist Christians trying and suceeding to have creationsim taught in schools. Not surprising as half the wackos in the republican party think the earth is only a few thousand years old and started with Adam and Eve.
In 200 odd years the USA has gone from independence to moon landings, NASA, Silicon Valley, cutting edge medical research and being at the forefront of science and technical innovation.

Yet 45% of the population believe the Earth is less than 10K yrs old. You have to multiply 10K by 4700 to get the right answer. If you said it was a mile from NY to LA, you'd be more accurate, because you only have to multiple that by 2800 to get the right answer!

Just imagine what they could have achieved in nearly half the population weren't so fking stupid.
That's stretching a simple statistic into an extreme statement isn't it??
I agree there probably are some extremists, but not EVERYONE on your list....

Or are there no Christian scientists or historians?

Now concerns spread possibly countrywide especially Bradford, Manchester and East London. More Birmingham schools identified.

Investigation spreads to other cities

Jesus and they are more worried about a few posters from UKIP depicting what we all know is real life.

It's what we don't know that is worse.

If I remember correctly, there is a professor of geology that has seen the evidence of 4 billion year old rock samples giving almost indisputable proof that the Earth is that old. Yet he is a christian and believes in creationism aswell as ignoring all Earth age related evidence in favour of the Earth being around 5000 years old.

I know, just one example.

As dumb as that is, it isn't a similar issue. People are entitled to believe whatever they want, but when there is a religion that starts to force things like segregation of sexes and extremist views hostile to the nation, cultivating hatred, then it's a different matter.

It's really sad that as a nation we are getting over our Christian religious beliefs, only to be subject more and more to the cancer that is Islam.

I haven't got a problem with the segregation of sexes, rather my problem is the way they segregate girls from boys. There are some very good single sex schools in the UK and indeed it is a feature of our cultural landscape.

I'd be interested to have sight of a full list of schools under investigation.

I just like to think that any so called "Trojan horse infiltration" is just a way for our Islamist friends to integrate.
We should simply be more understanding of Islam and its scriptures.
I respect it as it respects me.

More details emerge about the situation in Bradford. Two heads left and another under severe pressure to leave by overt and covert plotting.

The entire governing body of one school sacked by the council in attempt to recover situation.

One of the plotters ex Respect councillor.

As with Birmingham control of syllabus for purposes of radicalisation, girls made to sit at back, ,radical preachers, extremist deputy head appointed.

Also Albert Bore head of Birmingham council had been confronted by head teachers but jhad downplayed the concerns as defamatory.

The whole thing has a horrible whiff around it of people looking at their feet, hoping the story will quietly disappear with many involved or just concerned afraid to say a thing for fear of being seen as racist. Hardly a surprise given the current obsession in the press, and reflected here with various threads running hundreds of pages, debating white man racism.

The minority groups will always have the upper hand in respect to this. We are so ashamed to stand up for ourselves and they know it, and now they are free to abuse that power we have given them.

Well, Birmingham council don't appear to be overly convinced of a covert islamist or fundamentalist plot;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-27...

and unsurprisingly they and the governors and the teachers don't seem too happy with Ofsted and the Education Secretary's interventions.

More to follow, I'm sure, as official reports are made/submitted/re-edited/released/spun.

I suppose it is austerity measures,

If they send 8 year olds they dont have to pay full fare to blow the bus up. thats a quite a saving especially since they don't need a return ticket,

Today in the Telegraph Andrew Gilligan claims that the BBC is reporting this very selectively. He has a tape of the meeting and reckons the above report is nothing like representative.

I don't doubt for a moment that different spins (for want of a better word) can be put on stories by including and omitting, selectively quoting, editing and the like. To be honest I thought Andrew himself was guilty of overplaying his criticism of the (small) BBC report (and let's be honest both the Telegraph, its readership, and perhaps particularly Andrew himself have their own agendas when it comes to the BBC!).

Pretty much all parties concerned in this saga have their own agendas and no doubt there will be plenty more to come over the next several weeks.

I think any article from the Telegraph should be treated with the same cynicism as one from the Guardian. They are about the same level.

Been a couple of updates on this today, including parents protesting about the changes. Mothers and fathers protesting separately though!

Whilst the school is funded by public money, they can do what they're fking told.
