On what basis do you think Farage's position is not hypocritical?
On the basis that, if we didn't have people like Nigel on the inside we would know very little about what actually goes on. The EU isn't exactly an open, honest, transparent kind of group is it? The can't even pass an audit where expenses are concerned.Guam said:
Hang on,are you saying this is a contrib scheme then? "funded in the majority by the tax payer" would suggest so?
If so then it is no different to other pension schemes run by many employers where the employer matches the employees contributions?
Can you clarify if that is the case?
No, the EU don't match the MEP contribution. They double it. MEP puts in a thousand a month, the tax payer puts in two thousand a month. If so then it is no different to other pension schemes run by many employers where the employer matches the employees contributions?
Can you clarify if that is the case?
The ordinary pension all MEPs receive is entirely tax payer funded. This alone will be worth about 60k a year to Farage.

Only 5 more to go and you reach the 31k mark..do you get any bonus? The ordinary pension all MEPs receive is entirely tax payer funded. This alone will be worth about 60k a year to Farage.

Yet another example of Farage saying he stands for one thing, yet his actions contradicting him;

Anyone any thoughts on why someone chose to quote that article in the Telegraph and declined to quote this one from the same paper that observes that whilst he is a member of this AVC scheme all it will do is make it easier for UKIP to make political capital.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/e...

MEPs’ pension is more ammunition for Ukip
The confirmed membership now stands at 36,015, with staff at the party’s headquarters in Newton Abbot, Devon, still working around the clock to get through a glut of applications.
UKIP Director of Communications Patrick O’Flynn said: “This is more superb news for UKIP. On present trends we will overtake the Lib Dems in terms of membership figures before the general election – just as we have already overtaken them in terms of opinion poll support."
“When Nigel asked people to come and join the people’s army at the end of the second debate there were viewers from all over the country who decided to do just that.”

Wont someone think of the Children!

Has Nigel suggested eliminating such Grants then? Might explain a lot of this, maybe thats why he is so desperate on policy issues?
I dont know we coped raising our Daughter without child care grants back then, oh wait I do boomers had it easy
FFS I just googled childcare grants............ I had 4 under the age of 12 when I did my F/T degree and worked evenings and weekends doing all sorts of jobs and never got a penny from the state or any grants (Student loan that was paid back excepted). Now you can get £255 p.w. for 2 or more children paid on top of your student finance and you don’t have to pay it back.!!!!!I dont know we coped raising our Daughter without child care grants back then, oh wait I do boomers had it easy

not sure what your point is?
The point is simple; the EU are offering their MEPs an optional, additional pension, funded by the tax payer, that is far, far more beneficial than those available to other public servants or private individuals. It is funded in the majority by tax payers, with those from the UK alone having contributed £100m so far and likely to require another £170m + in the next 12 years due to a big back hole in the finances (so that's a third of a billion pounds to support less than 40 UK MEPs who take advantage of the scheme. This is precisely the kind of dodgy spending that UKIP and Farage say is wasteful and expensive.
Yet Farage has opted to receive this optional pension on top of his normal MEP one, despite it representing the opposite of everything he says he stands for.
If so then it is no different to other pension schemes run by many employers where the employer matches the employees contributions?
Can you clarify if that is the case?

Actually FIF, you're right. It's 'only' £100m for the 38 or so MEPs we have in the system at present, plus our share of the £170m+ black hole.
So that's ok, then
As for the personal bile directed at me for asking about childcare grants, grow up.
I still think you need to look in a bit more detail old fruit. So that's ok, then
As for the personal bile directed at me for asking about childcare grants, grow up.
As for the child care stuff no idea what you are on about. I was laughing at Guam with his pointing out we boomers had it easy.
As for telling me to grow up. Get your knees brown sonny.
Wasn't directing the child care and bile comments at you FiF, old boy.
As for the figures, I'm only quoting those in the press. If you have better, please share!
I'd imagine, taking into account those ex-MEPs (including some naughty UKIP ones), the total figure might be 100 or so individuals. More than £1m tax payers pounds per head seems a tad, erm, generous.

Rather hypocritical I would say.So that's ok, then

Not bile at all just restating facts as you have presented them elsewhere.... your wife goes back to work and possibly pays 40% tax.....you go to UNI, get grants to study as well as childcare grants in the region of £255 p.w ......didn't exist in my day but if that is the system now then so be it. Nothing wrong with you taking advantage of it but a bit hard to get my head around when you actively criticise others for taking advantage of a legitimate pension system especially as they are, in effect, actually campaigning to have the system they benefit from abolished.
Cue your 31K post.
