I do find it funny the way even people in full we hate UKIP mode can't find anything more damning to say than that 'he's just as bad as the others.'

This will be the same Nigel Farage whose party states that under no circumstances and without exceptions will they employ family members? Yep, the very same.

Because - surprise surprise - they made an exception. You know, the exception that they said they'd absolutely not make.

All MP's can be said to be riding a gravy train. It is a bit duplicitous to single out Farage.
The Tories fer instance took some 800k in funding from Hedge fund circle health before awarding a contract to run the first private NHS hospital. There are many ways that can be viewed, so it is with UKIP.
UKIP should be held to its account for policies, not its funding, because all parties play fast and loose with money.

No, it is not duplicitous to single out Farage. His theme is that he is not like the rest, but he is. He is a charlatan.

Personally I think UKIP were stupid to say that and make that promise way back whenever they made it.

The problem is not the concept of employing family members per se, the problem is what politicians were doing which is employing family members who basically then did virtually nothing for their pay.

The reality of life is that there are many small firms and enterprises where they wouldn't survive if it weren't for the commitment in terms of effort and/or unsocial hours from owners' families.

So yes this is something that could have been foreseen and it was a mistake to allow it to happen.

It was obvious a couple of years ago that the usual suspects would get dirty and dodown into the gutter. Witnessed on this very thread and others.

Claims of hypocrisy from Labour and Tory supporters really is pot meet kettle.

Live by the sword, die by the sword.

UKIP made a statement that they now find they can't live up to. As you say, there's a reason that families often work together, and if UKIP had thought about it for even half a minute they'd have realised they were setting a standard that was unrealistic.

But it is they who made the statement. No-one made them. And it's not hypocritical to call them on it when they fail to live up to the standards that they set themselves.

Indeed. Remember that.

There are a lot of targets in the LibLabCons fully worthy of being stuck with the pointy end.

Nige does have the look of Russell Crowe about him biggrin

"The beating heart of Rome is not the marble of the Senate, it's the sand of the Colosseum. He'll bring them death and they will love him for it." -Gracchus, on Maximus

Senator Gracchus supports what Maximus is doing in the gladiatorial arena. His quote shows a critical truth about many societies: the true representatives are not the politicians or other elite, but the peasants who compose the majority of the population. If Maximus could manage to sway the opinions of the people through his actions and charisma in the arena, they would provide a powerful collective force for the Roman army to contend with if necessary.

I agree. The difference with Farage is I have seen nothing to suggest his wife was not working hard, in fact she was unpaid for 7 years which makes her sound good value overall. Especially considering the amount she has been paid for the other 7 years.

Also IIRC not employing a spouse was an internal party agreement, not something promised to the electorate. Another difference with Farage is that he has put his hand up and said that that agreement was incorrect, which is refreshing. This honesty makes me inclined to believe him.

I think it's great.

He has the establishment seriously worried.

So we will no doubt see more and more attacks on the UKIP and NF.

What they have realised that their only defence is to do what they are doing.

Unfortunately for them, the ordinary person in the street has had enough of the establishment and their political class and may very well say "sod off" on voting day.

Just about sums it up...........

1918 US trade union address by Nicholas Kleinfrownoften attributed to Gandhi)
And, my friends, in this story you have a history of this entire movement. First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you.
