So how much does your average UK hedge fund manager earn? I'm guessing it's more than regularly saying 'Enjoy your meal'.

Is this guy just a greedy bar-steward or a st hedge fund manager?

Remember the SAP director in the US - payed remarkably well; who earned a little on the side by printing out his own EAN barcodes - to buy expensive lego kit on the cheap and flog it on Ebay for a vast profit

Google SAP LEGO BARCODE

It is either greed or a mental illness.

Wow! The difference there is that you'd think being a VP at SAP would be a pretty full-on job so it's amazing he had the time to devote to his sideline.

Unreal. I'm going with greed and mental illness.

The 42k he paid. Was that the fare he hadn't paid, or the penalty fares. It's not completely clear.

If it's just the fares, then that opens up the question where they say anyone can settle out of court. If it's penalty fares then I can understand their comment about settlement.

As above, I have little sympathy for train operators when the OH pays £1k per month for train and parking.
Hang on.
Because you choose to pay lots of money for something (after all £1k a month must mean you CHOOSE to live a long way from work), it's ok to cheat or evade in some way?

You suggest £1k a month is a rip-off? It's a free country - find an alternative if you don't like it.

I commute into Central London and change between the Victoria Line and Jubilee at Green Park. There's quite often "Revenue Inspectors" located between the platforms with some BiB checking people have touched in / out and aren't travelling through Zone 1 without a Zone 1 ticket.

I'm under the impression that if they stop you (for committing an offence) you have to provide your details, i.e. this guy couldn't not.

As above though, he's an idiot.

It was calculated based on single fares - he'd have paid significantly less had he bought monthly passes.

Hang on - just done some quick maths.

He's paid £7.20 twice a day? Let's say 228 working days in a year, so that's £3,283 a year.
The season ticket from Stonegate is £3,520 a year - so he's only saving about £1 a day! In 5 years then he's saved just over £1k with his fare evasion, but it's cost him £42k to settle out of court????
Feck!

And he's trusted to manage £billions?? Sweet jesus.

AND had he bought annual season tickets he's have been able to use them for occasional weekend visits to London, and he'd have a gold card......

It might be half that amount though if he manages to avoid touching in on the way home. I assume there's no barrier (or it's not operating) at his home station, so no need to touch out.

Must admit I am unsure how all the maths on this works as presumably on occasion he had to buy a ticket on the train as well.

I'm still unsure of the maths

Assumptions
single fare 24.50
days in week 5
working weeks in a year 46
number of years 5

so a year's fares would be 5635
5 years fares 28175

So the 42 k can't be just the cost of the single fares, it must either be penalty fares, or some account of the return journey.

IN which case 2* 28175 is 56 odd k, so it can't be that.

42k divided by the number of journeys equals out at about 36 quid.
I'm not sure but if charged a penalty fare, don't think they subtract the fare you have actually paid and charge the difference.

Pass.

Bloke's a genius, not.

Well the UK train operators certainly like the customer to bend over and think of England...
