Probably cos we tried to send everyone to university to get a degree in hair dressing and their expectations are odd.
:yep:Every 18year old graduate nowadays thinks they are owed a job at Morgan Stanley.
The buyer of our house brought a Polish builder round with him to run through the problems highlighted on the survey (none of which turned out to be as serious as the surveyor implied but that's another story, pond being a water hazard etc.) and was a very nice professional bloke, told the buyer not to worry and the house was solid. I was taking to him later and he said he's had the same customers for more than 10 years, the secret being to do a good job, never overcharge and never do unnecessary work.
This is worth a look to see the different standards even though from memory the woman who uses the Polish builder is very unhappy with his work at the end for no other reason than he's not English...

Playing Devil's Ad for a moment, if 'employers' actually disciplined these workers by instantly terminating their contract when they were late then it would add up to educate them to do a full day's work.
They only skip days and go off for haircuts because their clients in the last 20 years have seemingly accepted this as tolerable behaviour.
The Eastern Europeans grew up in a climate where such behaviour resulted in going hungry.
The British builder who is not efficient can normally be made efficient by explaining to them who the boss is.
The trouble is that it is often easier to be treated like a bh by the worker than to bin them and get another.

Got a polish bloke to do some plumping, no cheaper than UK tradesmen and did a bad job and he stunk of BO.
Well that fantastic anecdote solves the argument of immigration in one fell swoop.Do you have any more riveting tales of unpleasant foreigners you have met as we are all on the edge of our seats waiting to hear them.
Next you'll be wanting facts in N,P&E rather than just regurgitating daily mail editorials.
Plasterer completed first class work from start to finish of our job, small under 1k job. Punctual, polite, nothing to much trouble type of guy. Stuck to price quoted and charged a very fair rate for a few 'extra's' that we requested. He asked us if it was alright if he took Friday off for a long weekend with his kids and promised he would finish the job on the following Monday, which he did. He is a young middle aged British tradesman.
Our kitchen fitting Company (family firm) produced some sloppy work, failed to fit a complete unit which was on plan, cocked up a full height unit. Customer after sales can only be described as appalling. British Company trading since 1988. We have held back the final payment and still await to hear further from them following my third reminder three weeks back.
Win some/lose some.
