Shock, horror.

The Beeb has actually mentioned SGD.

But it was in reference to Scots independence rubbish..............

who are you talking about?
I took it as a joke to mean many who post here might be perceived as ultra right wing smile

(I probably fall into that camp - and found the comment funny).

I must admit I like that about the English. They/we have the same conceit as every other nation but feel it inappropriate to stuff it down the throat of others. Possibly because we don't really care what the others think....
I do too. Though the house I moved to a few years ago happened to have a flagpole in the garden...seems a waste not to use it.

In my day there wasn't an England, just Britain. Shame that ended.
I'm not sure on this point though. I see no harm in the individualism of the constituent nations being able to be shown. If nothing else it helps separate the sheep shaggers from the ginger haired fighty tight arses biggrin

(I also have a Union flag).

The problem with celebrating SGD is that, if you are indeed English, you don't want to make a fuss. Everyone knows we are great so we don't have to wave a flag to prove it.

Do I need a woosh? Surely the English are world renowned for their desire to exhibit their Englishness!? Particularly when abroad?

I love you all anyway, though.

I have to say that I don't get the English rather than British bit. The only time I reckon it is of some importance to me is in sporting competitions between to the two countries. I'm keen on rugby and I tend to support England against all countries, Ireland (I'm half Irish by birth but not by inclination) if they are not playing England, and Wales as I feel we should always encourage the emerging nations.

I support any British team against France, and all SH teams (although perhaps not Scotland as it is a bit irritating having to hide sharp implements). I have cheered Italy against one or two British teams, although not England, as they put a lot of effort in.

But that, as far as I'm concerned, is it.

I reckon the national anthems at the end of a Grand Prix are farcical. I have found that I support English teams but I have done so when they've had Scottish drivers, and other nationalities as well. What I like about British crowds is that there are always significant numbers who support foreign drivers. The biggest Ferrari supporters club by numbers outside of Italy was, in my day, based in England. You could be sitting in the stands with a crowd made up of the English to find every bloody team on the grid, and every driver, has supporters around you.

Did anyone commemorate or in any way acknowledge St George's Day? I put a vase of red roses in my front window and in my suit wearing days wore one in my buttonhole.
