I haven't listened to the audio, but I've been wondering why the girl would go down into the basement after hearing gun shots? From reading the news article, I thought it sounded like she came down a little bit after the boy.

I haven't heard the audio, but just from the reporting of the incident it sounds like the boy was dead before she came on the scene, perhaps she thought her boyfriend had done the shooting.

I read yesterday that the homeowner knew the victims - and had even employed them and other dirt-bag local kids to do odd-jobs on his property the previous summer.
It turns out that he was being systematically robbed by these kids - who are alleged to have broken into his home at least eleven times and stolen property and cash valued in excess of $40,000.

In his past he was a contractor to the US government, installing security systems in consular properties around the world, so why he left his own home so vulnerable to intrusion is anybodies guess - the repeated break-ins changed him from being a trusting and generous man into a paranoid introvert, according to his neighbor.

I do not condone what he did, which was execute two nasty scum ball kids, who were taking advantage of a misguided man who had trusted them. However, if you are prepared to force entry into a residence, under cover of darkness in the US, you must also be prepared to face the potentially mortal consequences.

WTF?

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-27243115

"Mr Kaarma, a 29-year-old firefighter, has told investigators his home had twice been hit by burglars, and he told a hair stylist he had waited up at night to shoot intruders, prosecutors said.

On the night of the shooting, Mr Kaarma and his partner Janelle Pflager left their garage door open, and Ms Pflager left her purse in the garage in order to bait intruders, she told police.

They set up motion sensors and a video monitor, prosecutors said.

When the sensors went off just after midnight and they saw a man on the monitor screen, Mr Kaarma went outside and fired a shotgun into the garage without warning several times."
