"Lag justice" is a bit of an urban myth, people do get attacked and hurt in prison, but it's usually because of personal issue rather than retribution for whatever they did to get themselves in their in the first place - they are after all, all convicted criminals.

It's probably a bit of both; sex offenders, and more particularly child sex offenders, are seen as a valid target irrespective of personal grievances. Being responsible for damaging one of them gives the perpetrator a perceived set of bonus points.

I seem to recall Sutcliffe lost an eye in one such attack.

Although Sutcliffe was the most reviled offender since Brady/Hindley, I'm sure the kudos gained by getting to him would have been huge.

I also think lag retribution is exaggerated, every time a thread starts on here about somebody going down there are lots of "He'll soon be getting it where it hurts" type posts, I rarely hear anything to suggest this happens.

People getting beaten up is fairly common in prison. I suppose any excuse.

Kept out of main population for their own safety. This means opportunities to attack them are limited. I was told but it my be untrue that however their food is not prepared by other nonces and as such is subject to "additions"....

Which is as it should be. However reprehensible their crimes might be, the idea of 'lesser' criminals ragging on the other lot isn't a good idea.

A mate of mine worked as a screw (true story) and Ian Huntley, when first jailed, had guards following him everywhere for his own safety - although I believe I read that one chap did get to him and slash his face once this guard had been removed/lessened.

EDIT: It is in the Metro link above, cheers to that poster, I knew I wasn't going crazy!

I met Cliff Richard when I was under 10 years old many moons ago (in the '70's) and we sat chatting by ourselves in the changing room of a football stadium for the second half of the game (it was a charity game, long story).

He would have had more than enough opportunity to try anything on and he didn't.

I can't believe this will amount to anything.

I'd just take that as a personal insult, if I were you.

You're having a laugh, there've been rumours about him being involved for yonks. Type in "Yewtree" in twitter and it actually suggests Cliffy-baby...
