Chuck? He's as thick as mince and as mad as a box of frogs; no he will never learn.

‘And now Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler.’

He's not his mum, is he?

Let's sing: 'Long to reign over us' and really mean it.

The two previous Chas were not exactly class of the field. Both had an extraordinary view of their worth. Glad to see the chap who is rapidly becoming regent is following that great tradition.

even hilary clinton agrees

Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton sparked uproar in Washington recently when she said very much the same as the heir to the throne. Lashing out at Moscow’s plan to issue passports to ethnic Russians in Crimea, she said: ‘Now, if this sounds familiar, it’s what Hitler did back in the 1930s.’

That's not how I read it.

Charles meets woman who lost family in the Holocaust and states Putin is now doing the same in Ukraine, which would seem to be overstepping the mark and not actually true.

really? even the woman he met agreed with him and she was there....‘The prince then said “And now Putin is doing just about the same as Hitler”.
‘I must say that I agree with him and am sure a lot of people do.

I'd prefer it if they didn't - can't imagine the Queen doing anything like this.

Private conversation mentioned to the press. Press looking for something to be outraged at. His critics are polishing the pitch forks just in case they can brandish them in outrage and look wronged.

How is it a private conversation, he was talking to a member of the public, not chatting with friends.

Excellent, about time somebody in the public eye said it instead of pussyfooting around pretending nothing is wrong in the Ukraine like the rest of Europe.

I understand that she mentioned it after the conversation if indeed it has been reported correctly. Either way, these always crop up. I bet that if all the "innocent" discussions at the company water cooler were to be aired, the daily wail would go into meltdown.

And at a public engagement.

He's part of the royal family. It is not up to him to have opinion at official engagements. His job is to represent the country, not to indulge in flights of fancy that can give a foreign country a reason to call in an ambassador for a justifiable moan.

He can, obviously, have that opinion, as do many of us. I view Putin as probably the most dangerous Russian leader since Stalin. Most of the others have been more or less sane. Putin though . . .

But the heir to the throne has limitations as to what he can and cannot say at an official engagement.

The chap lacks judgement, he lacks discretion. He's got a job to do and he should concentrate on that. It will be viewed as 'official' policy by those who will wish to exploit such gaffs. He holds an office of the state and he should accept its limitations.

His mother is queen by way of agreement. The family enjoys massive concessions. He owns a massive swathe of the country. He's had his fill from the role. If he didn't want to do it then fair enough, but if he takes the state's shilling then he should do the job properly and not engage in whimsy.
