Lets hope this first directly elected Muslim Mayor isn't going to be representative of others to come, as so far the third world vote rigging and 'vote for a Brother Muslim' don't look that healthy, before we get on to his use of the councils money or his all Bangladeshi council team representing East London.
He should be an embarrassment, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Wonder why ?

Given the amount of dodgy stuff this guy has been accused of over the last 10 years, in Private Eye and the mainstream media, why has none of it been able to stick?

And that, my friend, is the ten million dollar question. A lot of stuff has come back along the lines of "very iffy and it looks like there is something amiss, but there is not enough evidence for a full prosecution".

There are a number of investigations of different types taking place at the moment or due to happen very soon, and it'll be interesting to see whether they come back with similar results.

Some were wondering the same thing in the recent Trojan Horse schools plot. Seems a number of people were warning, but now we find out the council simply didn't want to see what was happening for fear of the instant default islamaphobia card, something Rahman pulls out at every such instance. I'm sure no one in this case is fearing anything with dealing with major Rahman though.

The utter silence on the subject should tell you something from even something as so obvious as getting into power and having an all Bangladeshi council team. Not much cry from the Guardian types who were busying themselves with counting skin colours in TV shows.

Why don't the police do anything apbout the flags.

When the edl raised the Israeli flag near where some Pakistanis live the police treated it as a hate crime and arrests were made.

Campaigners backing a legal challenge against Lutfur Rahman’s election as Tower Hamlets Mayor have become victims of intimidation on an “industrial” scale, it was claimed last night.

article said:
Campaigner Dame Janet Digby Baker, who was awarded an OBE in 2012 for setting up a children’s foster agency, said the witnesses had told her they believed their families in Bangladesh could be in danger if they challenged the election results.

She said: “They were threatened that a member of their family in Bangladesh would be hurt. When it was said to them ‘what do you mean by hurt?’ [The witness is then said to have replied] ‘well, probably my grandmother would be killed.’

“The whole thing is being played out in Bangladesh as well as here,” Dame Janet added.
article said:
Azmal Hussain alleges he has had windows smashed and claims his car has been vandalised since the challenge was launched.

“I am very afraid, I need help, I always be careful,” he told the press conference held at his Brick Lane curry house, Prithi and Preem.
article said:
It is also alleged in documents filed to the High Court that Mr Rahman’s supporters exerted unlawful “spiritual” influence on voters, who were told to vote for the Tower Hamlets First candidate or face punishment in the next world.

Ah, yes indeed, the stench of the corruption back home in Bangladesh is so strong it simply can't be left behind.

depends on which bit, but basically yes.

it's the lovely time of year where it sounds like a war zone also, fireworks being launched horizontally at anything that moves by our nice young Bangladeshi drug dealers

^^^^ Wot Chris Sed.

It's desperately non-PC to say so (and I suspect the newfangled Haymarket mods won't like me saying this) but the biggest reason third-world countries are so impoverished and crappy is because the people who live there make them so. We seem to have huge problems with people coming to the UK and bringing their third-world habits with them, and then everyone is surprised that they make things around them impoverished and crappy. Female Genital Mutilation, anyone? Or a bit of gang rape in a northern mining town? Or some good old-fashioned electoral fraud in East London? While 'Political Correctness' and 'Cultural Diversity' and 'Inclusiveness' are the bywords of the age then such behaviour will run rampant and unchecked. I sincerely hope that the current bruhaahaa in Tower Hamlets is persistent enough to get to the bottom of the problem, and tough enough to make sure that change is effected.

PWC report out today. It's here:

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

Suffice it to say, the report is heavy going to read but the media comment from those who have done so tells you what you need to know:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/local-ele...

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/politics/tower-haml...

Summary: Mayor is corrupt, grants have been given to those 'of a certain demographic', council assets have been sold corruptly to others of a similar demographic and who had links to the Mayor.

Statement from Pickles in the Commons arriving now.
