I caught the end of a R4 interview this morning where what appeared to be the new Mayor of TH was trying very hard to avoid saying he disagreed with the judge, even though he clearly did. A chap by the name of Rahman. Coincidence?
Deputy mayor Oliur Rahman is not a relation according to reports on the BBC. He was interviewed on ITV local news last evening and came across as thick as st.gibbon said:

The deputy Mayor has been promoted to Mayor, he's also called Rachman. Seems awfully coincidental. I didn't hear all of the interview but rather than saying he agreed with the judge he kept repeating that the community wouldn't agree with the judge's decisions. Came across as another rotten apple rather than someone willing to 'learn lessons'.
Ah ok.Surely this is a temporary measure though? I believe they will hold a new election shortly.
I would like to see his actions during his previous term investigate properly, various accusations have been made regarding the sale of government buildings and the use of council funds for various charities etc.

Eh?So the police got it in the neck for the letters to the grade A students now doing work experience in Syria?
Who are the police going to slope shoulders onto for their inaction in upholding the law in Tower Hamlets?
Where do I sign up to the Big Society so I can help them do nothing, and help them avert their gaze from blatant criminality?

I have seen nothing about this on the BBC News app. (But I still use the Android version prior to the disastrous 'update'. Perhaps that is why?).
Have just had to search on the BBC website to find the topic as was not at first apparent just where on the site it was. The interview with the deputy mayor was pretty firm I would say.

It's the first story on BBC London website and there was plenty of mention on Radio 5 today.

I was looking at the main BBC site and after reading your post, had another look; found the London link under another news article. Bloody new website! The interview with the deputy mayor was pretty firm I would say.
George Galloway may stand as Mayor of Tower Hamlets and Mayor of London
article said:
George Galloway could stand for election as mayor of the borough of Tower Hamlets in east London if he loses his parliamentary seat of Bradford West in the general election.Galloway has already stated that he will stand for mayor of London if he loses the seat, but a speculative article in today's Times newspaper points out that he might also be in the running for the position of Mayor of Tower Hamlets.
article said:
Yesterday Tower Hamlets published a notice for an election on 11 June to replace Rahman. The deadline for nominations is 14 May. This would leave Galloway time to consider standing if he loses in Bradford, where the Respect party founder faces losing his parliamentary seat.
Galloway has a strong following in Tower Hamlets. Last year he was given a warm reception by locals when he spoke out in favour of Rahman at a public meeting.
Galloway was cheered when he declared that Mr Rahman was "the most popular and best mayor in the country".
He Galloway also said that Respect would return to the borough to take on the Labour Party
