He should have been remanded in custody until his trial.
rofl Gotta applaud the brass neck rofl
Applaud? It's just further proof of the scummy way he behaves.
Well applaud, in the same way we applaud any particularly audacious crime, I mean you've got to take note of a person who swears under oath that what he sweared under oath was a lie, then expects the court to say that's OK mate.

Courts generally take a very dim view of blatant perjury.

Lutfur Rahman was found guilty of using religious leaders to tell people how to vote. It seems Labour have been doing the same in the Midlands.

Muslims in Birmingham told vote Labour or go to hell, court hears

Muslim voters in Birmingham were told they would go to hell if they didn’t vote Labour, a court has heard.

The claim came in an Election Court challenge to Labour councillor for Washwood Heath, Ansar Ali Khan, whose legal team said he had done nothing wrong.

Councillor Khan was re-elected on May 7 with a thumping 7,802 majority – the largest in Birmingham.

Oh dear

Rahman's bid to overturn the 5-year ban on him from public office thrown out. Judge says not a hope.

The judge also found that Mr Rahman and his wife, Mrs Ayesha Farid, were tax cheats, having failed to declare to HMRC any rental income from Mr Rahman’s buy to let properties since 2005 and providing “misleading information” to mortgage companies.

He was found guilty of bribing the electorate - why is his ban not for life?

Quite right. There are a lot of people, from all sorts of ethnic backgrounds and religions, who feel the general abuse of democracy is against their interests and, furthermore, in the interests of a minority.

If you see some of the negative comments about electoral fraud in TH and places like it (one such recent example being Gorton, Manchester), very often, it is from the minorities these crooks might have us believe they 'represent' but, like any bent official, the real reason they're in the game is to push their own interests, agendas and cronies. The abuse should never have been allowed to fester and develop into what we see now, in certain places.

Another dodgy politician from Tower Hamlets?

“ A Labour MP has appeared in court accused of defrauding her local council to receive social housing worth over £63,000.

Apsana Begum, 29, is accused of failing to tell Tower Hamlets that she was "no longer living in overcrowded conditions".

Ms Begum was elected to her seat in Poplar and Limehouse in east London last year.”

It's all a misunderstanding and a bit of a clerical error.

Did she receive any money for "being overcrowded" or did she cause the council extra expense by not notifying them she was elsewhere therefore someone else on the list could have been occupying where she now no longer was?

If you see what I mean...
