I wonder how much media attention this would have received had it been a regular taxi: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-35410676

Don't the taxi meters in black cabs do a print out at the end of the shift which would make it hard to pocket the cash jobs? I thought that was the case, could be mistaken though

Black cabs pay tax. Hmrc have guides just like news agents. Whether they pay the right amount is a different question.

I can't believe the irony of all the morons on here banging on about black cab driver and tax payments, whilst voraciously supporting a U.S. corp that hasn't paid sod all into the UK economy, whilst acting as middle man for thousands of benefits assisted immigrants to drive minicabs around London. Laughable the lot of them.

I don't think the lack of tax paid by black cabs is a reason we don't like them . . . you only need to look at the service they give to get a hint at why they're not liked.

The tax position of international companies is another issue and has nothing to do with taxis or private hire - it's a political issue for the world and as the UK is the "owner" of some of the first tax havens in the world we're not really in a position to dictate or complain.

On benefits ? Maybe but so are probably many taxi drivers, no difference - who gets child benefit ?

French cabbies now blockading streets in protest at Uber.

Imagine if the French had been as militant as their current workforce back in WW2...

Yeah, but you'll be billing that to someone else, though. Right?

Actually, they were personal. It's a journey I'd usually do by Boris Bike, but it was raining.

Here we go again....

Cabbies set to bring gridlock to central London with demonstration against Uber

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/transport/black-cab...

Ironic how they intend to cause gridlock when it suits them, but took TFL to court over their fears the Cycle Superhighway will cause gridlock....

The sooner they stop taking every complaint they have to court, the more sympathy they might get. Absolutely no sympathy from me that they can't deal with having a little bit of competition and feel the need to take a road change to court because there's one less lane rolleyes

You can phone the driver himself as soon as you realise you have lost your phone.
Erm, yeah.
Are you a cab driver?

Uber's customer service is very good. If the driver doesn't answer, they will deal with him.
Suspect he wonders how you phone after you've lost your phone laugh
oh, you know, with your wife's or friend's phone or perhaps one of those landline things?
I forgot to post this last week.

We had dinner with friends at my brother's house a couple of weekends ago. It was one of those dinners that winds up with the women telling the men not to open yet another bottle of red.

I woke up the next morning and reached for my phone. It wasn't there. The penny dropped through the hangover haze and I realised I must have left it in the Uber. I picked up my iPad, checked Find my iPhone and my phone showed up in Woodford. I set the phone to lost mode, then called up the Uber app, got the driver's telephone number and called him. He confirmed he had the phone. He called back the number I'd set to appear on the lost mode screen to confirm I was the owner and I arranged to drive out to pick it up (later in the day) as he wasn't working that Sunday.

What would I have done if it had been a black cab? I'd have called PCO lost property and most likely have got nowhere.

Looking at the classic and vintage car sales as I do every day I have noticed a small but significant increase in the number of ex black cabs coming onto the market. Just thought I would mention it.

Most likely, I was surprised they aren't striking about the new emission laws coming in 2018.

ULEZ requirements for taxi and private hire vehicles
Following consultation feedback (see below), and in light of funds announced by the Government, we have engaged with the taxi and private hire trade to finalise plans to change the licensing requirements for these vehicles.

Requirements for taxi and private hire vehicles (PHVs) are as follows:

From 1 January 2018, new diesel taxis will no longer be licensed in London
From 1 January 2018, all taxis presented for licensing for the first time will need to be zero emission capable; emit 50g/km CO2 with a minimum 30 mile zero emission range. A zero emission capable taxi must be petrol if an internal combustion engine is used.
