I believe the owners are upstanding citizens with friends in high places, no doubt only concerned about the well being of their customers...

Well no doubt some of the "demographics" running taxi monopolies in towns across the UK mainland will be able to give some helpful advice on that score...

Who do you phone if you accidentally leave your wallet (or whatever) in an Uber car?

there is a 'I lost an item' feature which notifies the driver.

If you were a front seat passenger and the driver's honest then there's a chance you'll get it. If you were a rear seat passenger then there's little chance. So who deals with the matter? How do you engage with the Uber base?

You can contact Uber via the app. You can phone the driver himself as soon as you realise you have lost your phone. How do you contact a random cabbie? You reckon your phone will make it to the PCO's lost property office? I would be significanlty more confident of recovering a phone left in an Uber than in a cab.

I've left all sorts in black cabs and always got it back. Most are honest. If I found a wallet I'd call the owner if there was I'd. I know the feeling to lose one

I'm surprised by that. I'd agree most may be honest, but what about the next passenger who's (very) likely to be the first person who discovers it (and knows the cabbie hasn't seen it) ? I think we ALL know the feeling of losing one. Perhaps surprising if most folk are honest.

With private hire you can phone their base who phone the cab. But Uber's more an internet comms type of thing. And lets face it, in emergencies we don't send an email, do we?

Uber I think is a great idea

I had an Uber from Euston station to my flat in Canada Water/Surrey Quays SE16 and paid £10.61 using the UBER share last night. Dropped off a random Brazilian lady who was quite chatty on the way and then went to mine driver was friendly and talkative and all at about 1/3rd of what a black cab would cost.

Even when work pay I still use UBER feel black cabs just take the piss and not sure if it is bad luck but every one I have been in seems to live up to stereotypes and start being racist after about 1 mile...

Are you a cab driver?

Uber's customer service is very good. If the driver doesn't answer, they will deal with him.

I think the point is more nuanced. wink

How do you call the cab driver without access to the smart phone/app? Grab another smart phone with the same credentials and login?

Suspect he wonders how you phone after you've lost your phone laugh

Apparently Uber do have a phone number, as the licensing requirements in London require it, as prior to Uber nobody coudl think of a mini-cab firm operating without a phone.

However I understand the licensing requirements are silent on the need to actually answer the phone when it rings...

Lol! No I'm not a cab driver. But I'm interested in how you phone an uber driver if you've lost your phone, presumably with his number in it? Do you use your other phone and draw down the data from the cloud? Seriously. I don't use uber or black cabs. I use private hire which is, apparently, where most uber drivers come from anyway. Another issue is, if you use cabs a lot (1/2 a dozen a week or more) you can't get an account, never mind at an agreed discounted rate etc. Why's that? According to my regular guy the bulk of their work's from accounts. Lot more lucrative than street work though not paid up front.

The emailed receipt has the drivers contact details and links to customer service. idea
