What did I say earlier?

SWINDON! That's a bit close to me...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-30668872

update
A spokesperson for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust confirmed it was caring for "an individual with a history of travel to West Africa", stressing that the Ebola test was a precautionary measure.
The precautionary test results came in earlier this morning - negative.
Thankfully!

But with the stupidity at play it's only a matter of time until it's not.

Isn't Sierra Leone the current hot-spot and is still seeing accelerated numbers of cases? It seems perhaps those with a history in that area should be at least be looked at a bit more closely upon return!

Dave
It could well be too late when they're back here. Quarantine should be immediately before they leave SL or the Countries involved.

But, as has been said, that is a tad inconvenient.

Thought provoking post confused

OK so firstly then a big assumption which is that Western healthcare workers going to do the "decent thing" are a positive factor in the Ebola crisis
Now I do have a vested interest as a couple of mates have just gone to do this - entirely at their own expense with unpaid leave from their (unfashionable public sector) jobs

How would it work when they came back to Blighty then?
After taking 4-6 weeks off without pay do they then have to hole themselves up away from work/pay for another 4?
Assuming this is the case then who looks after them, gets them booze and fags, and does their shopping?

More to the point where do they stay?
The village of Eyam has form here but how would the isolation of these people actually work?
To be safe it would have to be absolute wouldnt it?

Anyway forget my do gooder friends

If I was in a risk area and developed symptoms Id splash all of my cash on a flight to somewhere off the risk radar and then jump on Easyjet to Luton whilst conveniently 'forgetting' to mention where my journey started

SImples then - shut all of our ports of entry, job jobbed

Make it neutron bombs and the neoloons would probably agree; no need for unnecessary damage to fixtures, just kill everyone.

One would hope those who are aware of the risks & their exposure levels & being professionals would not expose themselves to others.

Would we be doing this from orbit?

Isn't this for the people, probably on combined incomes of several million squids a year with cushy benefits packages, to be working out to justify their remuneration?

I expect more logic than just doing nothing as is currently the case, until someone is suggested to be exposed, and THEN do something dramatic... suddenly all the machines that go 'ping' are rolled for show... till that point it's just amazingly shoddy.

You could argue the same for the UK. There will be several 10's of thousands of deaths this year. Mostly of people who don't do a lot for society. We could invent a soylent green machine, or just drop a neutron bomb on the biggest cities. Problem solved... No one left to catch ebola.

Simple problems easily solved.

Instead of actually going out there themselves for a few weeks, they donate their time off to a colleague to go. Everyone does this and the colleague goes for many months not a few weeks. Reduces the number coming back and forth. Only downside is no hero factor for your mates.
Quarantine is in SL, not the UK, so they won't be sneaking off anywhere as a back door route around quarantine. Also, they'll have surrendered their passports on arrival.

Heaven forbid that the North Koreans hack into it with their l33t h4x0r skills hehe

At least those targeted get a nice bit of tungsten to trade in to the scrapper too.

UK nurse Pauline Cafferkey is no longer critically ill with Ebola, London's Royal Free Hospital says.

In a statement, the hospital said she was "showing signs of improvement".

Clicky.

Fingers crossed.

Good luck to her and hopefully the worst is over.

What next? Didn't take long!
Now attention is on Manchester.
Another well-travelled to Africa is undergoing tests for Ebola -
wonder when he (they say it's 'he') returned? 21 days ago?

Anyway, he was transported by ambulance to NMG (North Manchester General) last Friday. News of this is now circulating.

Let's hope it's another false alarm like Swindon. Spin the barrel and fingers x.

And mostly down to people like the british nurse who went over there and put their lifes on the line

If we had followed the sage advice of the wise ones then it would be killing a huge amount in africa and instead of one or 2 cases in europe it would be hundreds

So those that wanted the UK nurse left to die in africa you should be ashamed
