How much is this woman going to cost the tax payer?
Full of class. As always.
Bet he's a QS - knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing

A nurse who was lauded by the government as one of Britain’s heroes of the Ebola epidemic is facing a disciplinary tribunal, accused of concealing the high temperature of her colleague Pauline Cafferkey, who developed Ebola on her return from Sierra Leone.

guardian said:
When Cafferkey’s temperature was found to be high, Wood is alleged to have recorded it on the form as normal, saying they would then “get out of here and sort it out”. They were then allowed to leave the screening area.

Someone's determined to have their pound of flesh over this affair. But then I suppose it's easier to pin the blame on a couple of hapless volunteers than to properly investigate the inadequate screening process that was put in place at the airport.

Let's wait and see shall we? If you're right the tribunal should also reach that conclusion.

Well, they won't, because the tribunal will be solely concerned with Wood's actions. The adequacy of the facility will not be investigated.

It'll be "thoroughly investigated" and "lessons will be learned" but absolutely fk all will happen as they are in the NHS, and they are all "angels", aint they!

Great attitude, lets's sort it out later!

Nice 2 month holiday over Xmas!

It was deliberate but not "pre-meditated" so let's let her off. And "not in public interest" to strike her off......seriously.....how many people were stting themselves having been potentially put at risk by this woman's actions?
Typical NHS enquiry result. I wouldn't be surprised if she is suspended on full tax payers pay!

No doubt she will be lauded as another "hero" or and "angel" on Facebook / amongst her peers.

I'd like to say "unbelievable" but it is entirely believable, sadly.

Bloody hell!! yikes The thought of ebola spreading to our shores is scary enough, but for a health professional to actually conceal a potential major problem.... Surely she should have been properly punished for this? & yes, it would be in the public interest

its a feking joke. They both should have been fined and sent to prison.

On the one hand one of them is so impaired by her illness she was found not liable for her actions because she was so ill and impaired, the other nurse then lied on the form to give her a lower reading just to get out of their and deal with it later.

Remind me - what does ebola do? how is it spread? what are the consequences of catching it? What would the consequences of it being spread in Heathrow and London?

It's a punishment I guess, better than saying she hadn't done anything wrong. Hopefully it'll be a deterrent unless there are even more irresponsible people in that profession?

Bit disgusted by the smoke screening and attempts to blame others today for what was clearly a bad decision.

"Pauline Cafferkey, the Scottish nurse who nearly died twice from Ebola, has called on Public Health England to “recognise their own failings” in a botched Heathrow airport screening process that has led to one of her colleagues being suspended for two months"

fk me! Absolutely NO personal responsibility acknowledged at all, is there?

Her registration has been suspended so she can't work. But there's no comment about whether she'll be sacked or not. The NHS generally isn't recognised for looking after its staff - normally any excuse and they're out on their ear.

If she is sacked then it would be difficult for her to get another nursing job.

They should both be struck off.
They came back knowing full well one was ill with Ebola, falsified temperature readings to get back in, without giving a toss for the risk they were creating for the rest of the population.
Now they have the cheek to blame the system.
Disgrace.

Do you really think someone who had seen first-hand the effects of ebola would willingly expose the population of the UK - including their family - to it?

Every self respecting healthcare professional would sooner top themselves than risk that.

A very unsympathetic fitness to practice panel nonetheless found that Pauline Cafferkey was in no way at fault and was already unwell enough to be unable to basically think straight by the time she reached the airport.

They highlighted that there were problems with the system for screening arrivals. And there were - or do you think it's okay to leave arriving, exhausted medics to do their own screening, unguided and unsupervised?

I don't honestly understand how your last point precludes her actions when she seemingly saw her colleagues temperature but decided not to act on it?

"let's put it down as 37.2 and get out of here and sort it out later"

The panel found her guilty and have punished her how they see fit, but I'm not sure how anyone can defend that.

Ah, no, I'm not defending it. That Public Health England were completely useless, and that the failure of that system left the entire country demonstrably at risk as a result, does not in any way reduce the very poor decision she made or its potential consequences.

Chinny Rec!
Temp at 38.2 and she is so do lally that she doesn't know what she is doing and none of the rest of these trained medics noticed she was in such a state. They sound like the NHS's finest. God hep the rest of us if that is the standard of competence of the lot of them.

What is so hilarious about all this is if this is the best behaviour we can get from "trained medics", what fking chance do we have against mere mortals flying in from ebola zones? Perhaps all flights should be suspended to such regions if there is another outbreak s clearly it is not safe if our finest trained medics end up making such a monumental fk up.
