PA envoy: We’ll join ICC if no Israel pullout deadline

Is this why Abbas didn't join the ICC (International Criminal Court) earlier?

"Joining the court would allow the Palestinians to pursue war crimes charges against Israelis."

Sorry, I don't see the joke. Please explain.

The other joke is that Israel was founded by terrorists (bomb attacks, massacres, ethnic cleansing, use of biological weapons) and is lead by the "genius" responsible for a botched attempt to assassinate the current leader of Hamas in Jordan. (International Terrorism is Netanyahu.)

You really need to read a modern Israeli history instead of the horlicks that informs your views. You might start with Benny Morris' 1948. A History of the 1st Arab-Israeli War or Illan Pappe's The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine.

The recent history of the Middle East is a lot more complex than your simplified cowboys+indians+baddies+goodies+Jews+bad+Arabs+good view

Google:

"arab riots"

"hadassah hospital convoy massacre

"Kfar Etzion massacre"

Etc

Totally agree, there is no black or white in regards to this no matter what the right wing Daily Mail reading PH posters say.

It's all shades of grey

Any country/city scape looking like Stalingrad circa 1944 means things have gone too far wrong 21st C. And both sides are to blame.

Israel by Martin Gilbert is also a very good read.

He's very pro Israel, but a good read never the less. Interesting points

1. The Israelis used messerschmitt bf 109 after the 2nd world war.
2. ho chi minh offered them a place in Vietnam if they could not settle in Israel !

Of course it is. But follow it from the start, not from some arbitrary point in the recent future.

Google also:

"Sabra and Shatila"
"Israeli use of biological weapons in Palestine"
"Irgun"
"Stern Gang"
"King David Hotel"
"Tantura"

Terrorism is a terrible thing, whether practised by a state or the oppressed. It cannot be justified while any other means is viable. But nor can the calculated ethnic cleansing of a people.

For those unlikely or unable to pick up a book, A Beginner's Guide to the Israeli Palestinian Conflict is worth a look.

Can I just ask where, except Israel, has so much effort, time, money and weapons, gone toward supporting an occupying power?

It is if you realise you are seeing it in black and white mate. That's the pointer you can take away from this and learn from. Too many John Wayne's in this forum putting on their stetson and riding into Keyboard town.....

I didn't know that, thanks for that.

Shows how tough WW2 was on all sides. everyone had to make do for the next war. My mum would be putting on her rose tinted specs by now.....

Any links not arguing but interested.

Wiki suggest they where not Bf109's but Avis 199 same airframe but different engine as the original stock of engines was destroyed in a fire.

Again Wiki suggests Syria had Panzerkampf IV. Israel did have Sherman and Cromwell tanks.

In some ways, Theodore Roosevelt and the USA can be 'blamed' for helping to cause the Arab-Israeli problem.

Before the rise of the Nazis, there was relatively little jewish immigration to 'Palestine'. Why? Because the land was arid, swampy, malarial and underdeveloped and there was high jewish unemployment there, and other countries , largely the USA, offered much better prospects. In some of the 20s there was net jewish migration FROM Palestine.

The nazis pushed out a large number of jewish people, who had to go somewhere. At the same time the USA clamped down on jewish immigration. This put pressure on jewish migration to Palestine. In 1932 just 9,500 jews moved to Palestine, some 30,000 arrived in 1933, 45,000 in 1934, over 61,000 in 1935 and so the jewish population reached 25% from 9% a few years earlier, and kept growing from there.

I would speculate that if FDR had not closed the door to the USA, the extra jewish immigrants would not have gone to Palestine.

Desperately seeking Jewish settlers, at $136 a day, to colonize Palestinian neighborhood

"Ir David Foundation, commonly known as Elad [El'ad] is a Jerusalem-based, Israeli association which aims to strengthen the Jewish connection to Jerusalem, create a Jewish majority in Arab neighborhoods of East Jerusalem and renew the Jewish community in the City of David, which is also part of the neighborhood of Silwan." Well, it's interesting, and I've not the information or resources to confirm or deny its verity.

But it was hardly, for either side, the catalyst.

The IDF themselves are supposed to be conducting an enquiry into the incident, anyway.
