i'd put money on this being done by hamas/palestinians to raise tensions, they're so good at this propaganda and have no regard for their own people.especially when this type of behaviour goes on every day

But didn't settlers kidnap a Palestinian kid and set fire to him? We don't know who did for the bus driver (maybe we never will), but settler on Palestinian violence is common in Israel. especially when this type of behaviour goes on every day

Say what you like about tit-for-tat revenge attacks by either side, this act was carried out in a place of worship and is the work of sub-humans.
Hopefully the authorities will deal with this in their norman robust fashion.

'Mr Abbas's office issued a statement saying: "The presidency condemns the attack on Jewish worshippers in their place of prayer and condemns the killing of civilians no matter who is doing it." '
Those may well be hollow words but I fear that Abbas simply doesn't have the authority or control over the complete nutters and extreme factions.
Whilst one wrong can never justify another, piling in now and flattening the homes and neighbourhoods of the 'terrorist nutters' responsible for this attack cannot be the best way to go surely?
I do understand the mentality of 'hit them hard and teach them a lesson' but history tells us that just strengthens resolve and if anything, generates more radicals? Unless of course you wipe that people/race off the planet! And that will work well with all of the other Arab Nations surrounding you?
Israel really does need to try a different tactic....
And FFS, the World does need to condemn these sort of attacks (before I get accused of supporting terrorists.)
Did we get anywhere nearer finding out what happened to the bus driver? Wasn't there an accusation above that Hamas may have done this to promote the conflict and their own agenda.
Israeli settlers blamed for burning mosque
No doubt the authorities did faff all about it, in their usual fashion.
I don't see the "sub-human" thing as being relevant -- it's just the kind of racist epithet the Israelis have cheerfully slung at Palestinians since the begining of the conflict. But if it applies to one side, surely to the other?

The death of the bus driver was recorded as suicide but I wouldn't be surprised at any Hamas involvement, especially after the way they used civilians as human shields and cannon fodder during the last little 'spat'.
If you want detail on the routine use by the IDF of Palestinians as human sheilds, look to the ex IDFers' site http://www.breakingthesilence.org.il/Then we'll talk again.
Until you've read the testimonies, you're just breaking wind.
Just hearing about this in the news - utterly despicable attack of terrorism on worshippers. Putting it into perspective though - it's a tiny fraction of how many Palestinians Israel have killed even over the space of a few hours. Someone dropping a bomb on a families house and killing those inside is no less a terrorist than the scum who committed this terrible atrocity.
All Palestinians should IMO engage in non-violent protest and demonstrate peacefully to further their grievances. This will really put Israel into a corner as they won't have any excuses to do the terrible things they are doing as just now they're using Hamas violence as justification for 1) killing thousands of Palestinians 2) Making more settlements with hardcore settlers 3) Running an apartheid state. However we know that Israeli's don't like peaceful protest either and engage in violence when confronted by Palestinians peacefully protesting. Talk about a no-win situation for the (normal) Palestinians.
However, I don't think that Israel would like the non-violence stance which should be taken by Palestinians. They need Hamas violence to further their own agenda. After all - the only winners with Hamas violence are really the Israeli's.
No doubt, the Israeli's will steal more land after this terrorist attack as a "punishment" - not because they want to extend their Zionist state - it's as a punishment you see. Any excuse really.

John Crace's gentle condensation of Julie Birchill's book. Just for fun.

A fair few do. They get shot by Israelis. See the film 5 Broken Cameras. There are torrents out there, so it'll cost you just 90 minutes of your time. A delegation of counsellors from somewhere in the NE went out there recently and joined in the regular protests -- 2 of them were injured.
The hard liners on both sides deserve each other. It's just a shame that innocent Israelis and Palestinians are caught in the crossfire between religious bigots.
The world would be a lot more peaceful today had the Jewish state been formed in Uganda or Guyana instead of the Middle East or alternatively had the Palestinians been paid to resettle in South America because both groups in the Holy Land seem incapable of living together side by side in a civil and peaceful manner.

I agree, just that the hard-liners of Israel are a lot more powerful and are seen to have a greater degree of legitimacy than the hard-liners of Palestine - however thankfully this is changing. You can only cover up atrocities with good PR for so long. When the World sees each "hard-liner side" for what it really is (both terrorists) - then only then will things start to change for the better.Gassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
