I've really heard it all now. Somebody above has reduced 'London' to zone 1. Mental.

I live in Parson's Green, have a 13 minute tube journey to work at Sloane Square. At the weekends, if I'm not going home to Belfast as I occasionally do, we'll generally stay in Parson's Green because it's practically a village nestled in zone 2. Otherwise, if folks are visiting, we'll go to the very heart of London, taking a massive 15 - 20 minutes and sometimes staying in some lovely hotels. During the week I might go out after work, either around Sloane / Belgravia or into, again, the heart of London - in, what, 5 - 10 minutes?

It's great. It's ridiculously expensive to live in obviously, but it's great. To suggest, as somebody did above, that living in zone 2 outwards is choosing to live in what amounts to a suburb but with London prices is utterly moronic and shows a deep lack of understanding of what London actually is. Which, I suppose, is de rigour for a PH debate.

I live in zone 6, 16 mins from Waterloo.

It means nothing. Reading is 25 mins from Paddington, is that London too?

If Reading became the London Borough of Reading, then yes, it would be. I'd have thought that rather obvious, to risk coming across as rude.

Went to london at the weekend

Traffic was bad, it took ages to travel just 5 miles. It was hot and you feel the bogies in your nose building in an attempt to filter out the stty air.

However, once we got to Cannizaro house, all that changed. It was almost like being in the country side, replete with lanes just wide enough for 2 cars. Lovely hotel that place as well, has some lovely (if not stunning) grounds. The vista from the bar at the back isn't that amazing but if you go for a walk, its rather nice.

Dread to think at the house prices there though!

Are there any other 8m+ inhabitated cities in the world you've visited that have better transport and less aggressive drivers? I'm all ears.
That is a bit like saying Herpes is better than Gonorrhea though wink
Whic re-inforces my point even more. Why come onto a thread and moan about London specifically without also putting in some context to say you actually hate all big cities?

It shows a complete lack of ability to debate.

Any city where you can smell the pissed stained streets from inside a car aint that great. South London is mostly a dump filled with overly aggressive idiots in chavy BMWs with an inability to drive, only mad worse by Addison Lee clue-less cabs.
There are many great attractions in London, but such is the sheer pain in the arse and nastiness of visiting and using public transport, I find it takes a long time to want to go again after one days visit.

No idea, but you've rather ignored the thread title , no ?
My idea of a nice place to live doesn't contain the smell of piss to be present in the air at the outside of of a lot of buildings, or for fast food litter filling the streets. Of course those further from bus stops aren't so affected.

Nor mine. I live in London and manage to avoid all that.

Surely it isn't too much of a stretch to accept that not everywhere in London is like that? An awful lot of the provinces are utterly horrid too.

People from outside London moan about the traffic, but having a bit of local knowledge makes a big difference to the amount of time you spend queueing.

In my (extensive) experience, the people that moan most about the dreadful traffic are the black cab drivers... who have a bit of local knowledge wink

Parsons Green is London. Reading isn't. This is a retarded debate

hehe

In much nicer places it'd be less than a mil but of course they're not London...thank goodness. Genuine sympathy is due to anyone paying that sort of money for that, at the point of puchase - sympathy which can be recalled at the time of resale a few years later smile

I'm amazed the OP got 24 pages out of a thread where the question posed bore no relation to the article produced to support it.

Absolutely! You make a terrific point.

Because one can't get 'nice' neighbours anywhere in the South East. It is utterly impossible because all Londoners are terrible neighbours. They're all bds.

Stands to reason.

yes
With what I have seen, that is correct. All spivs and chavs.

I wouldn't particularly use the word intimidated, more like confused.
