Whether he did or not is kinda irrelevant - it shows that Scottish politicians have just as much capacity to spend money on frivolous schemes as those in Westminster.

Salmond is proposing that things will be better post independence - but how does the fiasco over the trams project support that assertion. Even if Salmond did try and stop it - he won't be around to veto every decision that will ever be made in an independent Scotland - and there appears to little demonstrable evidence to that show that Scottish MPs make decisions that are inherently better, fairer, less prone to over spend or unnecessary waste etc than those in Westminster

.........that is the point.

After the vote, if it is a no, I wish to see a fairer Scotland, the total spend on Scotland should be proportional to the size of their population, that should be total spend, spend in shipyards by the British Government along with all civil service jobs.
If this means job losses so be it.

I use to like the Scottish people but after this my attitude has changed, sadly I hope they vote Yes.

The Trams will be a benefit in time. The thing that bugs me is that they are manufactured and installed without native labour or expertise. Britain led the world in all this stuff yet all this new wind generator power st are from foreign neighbours whilst we pontificate on socio economic layabout stehawkes paid to sit on their arses shagging furiously to produce lowlife economy draining generatations of the future.

I may be wrong.

My Wife was telling me that one of her friend's Husband was made redundant from the new Forth road bridge project to make way for cheaper immigrant labour. Apparently it's rife.

Go figure!

Welcome to a taste of iScotland. According to some resident nats - iScotland will need to attract far more immigrants going forward (especially in light of it's sub replacement fertility rate).

Yup!

I get that, you get that and anyone with an ounce of common sense gets that!

(Still loving the FACT that iScotland isn't entitled to keep anywhere near as much of however much oil is left in it as it thinks!!)

In the real world of earning a living I had a foreign student working this year and he was a breath of fresh air. His father speaks 4 languages and drives a bus in Scotland to earn and enhance the opportunities of his children. The student got his head down and just worked despite his lack of skill and he took everything in his stride including the beratings from myself. His friend was earning 95p per hour in their native European country whilst my guy was marvelling at the opportunities and wonderful lifestyle in Scotland.

Proportionally there are equal number of tts in both countries but there are far more good folks who realise we are better off staying together. Rise above the acrimony and enjoy the best that living life offers.

You used to like Scottish people? And now you don't and you hope they vote yes.
You epitomise the divisive nature of this entire saga. Thankfully the sensible majority will win the day but I worry for the aftermath. I for myself like the English people and if they had a vote would vote to keep Britain Great.

In a nutshell, you said, 'Chill out guys!', then you aggravated the situation.

Watching all this ste on ITV debate, what Scotland can do and can't do with the yes vote.

Explain Mr. Salmond how can you spend £776 million on bloody trams, and we have people in Edinburgh living on the streets and we have food banks.

What will change.............

smile
Are you joking? He's the only politician who actively tried to stop the trams project... Or do I miss a 'whoosh'?
Not at all, so tell me who instigated the project, Westminster?

You asked 'how' Salmond could spend the money on trams. He did so because he was forced to by the other parties in Scotland, not by choice. That's 'how'.
He tried to stop the whole debacle.

So remind me again how we won't have wasteful vanity projects in scotland?

Good question, IF we end up with an Independent Scotland, Alex won't have the final say on projects, so what changes there.
