I guess you are taking the piss. But in case you aren't:

No, let's not. I have no interest whatever in murdering millions and millions of innocent Russian citizens just to knock out a couple of hundred nutters from the government and military.

Did anybody read about the couple who missed the flight?
Very lucky, but then they spoiled it by saying someone must have been 'watching over them'
I saw the interview and that line mildly irritated me as well.

What also irritated me is the way he grinned like an idiot throughout the entire interview and couldn't stop doing the whole 'new parents' thing of ignoring the conversation in hand and constantly looking at their child, grinning and 'goo goo gaa gaa'ing at it while being interviewed.

You have been lucky enough, by sheer chance, or bad/good timing, to have avoided death, now show some fking respect and sympathy for the hundreds of dead, whilst being interviewed for what will be worldwide news.

To be fair, if the same had happened to me, I think I'd be grinning like a Cheshire cat for several months afterwards. Appreciate that it doesn't look good on TV but they really must be relieved beyond belief that they missed that flight.
Not sure I could crack a smile in that situation. I'd be absolutely devastated to have had such a close call.

Ok first of im not a believer in all this conspiracy buff. My friend however is. This has been posted on his Facebook page. He is calming these questions cannot be answered , this is why there is a conspiracy and more to this. I lack some of the Knowledge and fineness to answer all of them. So i aks my fellow PHers to help me out and shut him up.

Questions that need answered regarding the blown up plane before blame is fired
1.why was the plane flying over a war region where 2 planes had been shot down in the past week.
2.why were Cameron and Obama on the blower before the story broke it was shot down.
3.why are Cameron and Obama so obsessed with this when there's st flying sideways in Israel who ultimately are funded by the US.
4.why is there passports seemingly undamaged lying in an almost neat pile together.
5.why have we never intercepted a single communication between Russia and the pro Russian separitists .....untill now we miraculously apparantly have Russian military talking with separitists that the civilian plane target was successful ....really do folk really believe Russia can keep their comms quiet for years and slip at their most horrifying act .....surely only a fool could believe this evidence is real !
6.what would Russia gain by doing or authorizing this ? They don't want a war with the world they just want their soviet states back !
7. What would ukraine gain by doing this and blaming it on rebels? ... world support for military intervention by a UK US led coalition .... They have been begging since losing crimea!
8.what would the UK and US gain by authorizing the Ukrainians to do it and blaming it on rebels? War makes profit and America and Cameron are itching for an excuse to go to war!
9.why tho....Russia is worth trillions in gas and oil and nuclear capability.
10.where is mh370 and is it purely coincidence an exact same plane has been blown up in what's looking like a pawn on a chessboard.
I got to number 2 and stopped.

Obama and Putin were talking before the accident, not Obama and Cameron. Even if they were, so? Your friend is an idiot.

ETA: I couldn't help myself. 3. Because sometimes families put all their passports in one bag/pocket to keep them safe. Again, your friend is an idiot! Or someone picked them up and put them in a pile.

I've no doubt they were delighted.

If it was me, I would be delighted as well, but if someone interviewed me about it, I would try to simply state that I was very lucky and that my thoughts were with the friends and families of the deceased.

Just came across as very disrespectful to me. A bit kind of "I couldn't give a fk about anyone else, WE'RE ALIVE and that's all that matters! Woo hoo!"

I appreciate everyone is different though.

a weapon of mass destruction is defined amongst others as -

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weapon_of_mass_destru...

'Criminal (civilian)[edit]
For the purposes of US criminal law concerning terrorism,[32] weapons of mass destruction are defined as:
any "destructive device" defined as any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas - bomb, grenade, rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces, missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter ounce, mine, or device similar to any of the devices described in the preceding clauses'

i wonder if the UN will do anything considering they have the definition, and are classed as terrorists as well, will the war on terror include them too?

Can't imagine what families must be going through knowing that no one is being allowed in to retrieve the bodies. The area is just going to be swallowed up unless UN / NATO / someone gets involved.

ETA: I'm in no way saying Team America World Police should do it either!

About time nato grew some balls and went in as a protection force for the investigation team and to secure the area.

If Russia don't like it, tell them to fro.

reading the russian news channel live.ru this comment paints a good picture for me.

'There are no limits to hypocrisy! Putin annexed Crimea, meanly sticking a knife in the back "brotherly people" in a difficult time.

Pro-Russian activists and Russian security services on the orders of Putin plunged into bloody darkness Ukraine. Russian propaganda brainwashed people in the East of Ukraine thought that Russia will come to them in the image of balalaika and high pensions, and it came in the form of thugs who spit on them.

Now the terrorists fired at the plane and ended up in Russia. Alas. God will judge!'

I don't think any of the airlines realised that such deadly anti-aircraft missiles were deployed in this area.
Fedex use the Northrop Grumman Guardian which is an is a passive anti-missile countermeasure system designed specifically to protect commercial airliners from shoulder-launched missiles.

I would guess this incident may mean more take up the sytem as well as adding in long rang capabilities as well.

very interesting article lead from yours

http://www.themoscowtimes.com/opinion/article/mh17...

The deaths of 298 innocent civilians won't immediately lead to peace. But it may very well provide an opening for Kiev's allies to cut Russia out of the picture, allowing Ukraine to more effectively pursue its fight against the rebels. This tragedy may also give some advantage to those within Russia's collective leadership who support peace, if such a bloc can find a way to make its voice heard.

It is a pretty rubbish news outlet now. Nowhere near the cesspit that is sky news, but it sometimes shows traits of it. I try to avoid it as much as possible.

Great op-ed on the culpability of the airline:

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/07/19/opinion/malay...

"The truth is that air transportation, like most other modern systems, could not operate if it fortified itself against every conceivable peril."
look at the shipping container ships near Somalia, they still run.

I also not a lot of flight go over Afghanistan, Iran etc, would people boycott airlines because of this, no.

It is great to look back in hindsight and blame things, but the airline was never culpable, it is the people who fired the missle..

It's so surreal to me that things like that are actually happening. The whole affair is like a story line from the Metal Gear series of games.

"Russia caught editing Wikipedia entry about MH17"

article said:
"The edit was in response to an initial edit to the MH17 section that said the plane was shot down "by terrorists of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic with Buk system missiles, which the terrorists received from the Russian Federation," according to the website Global Voices.

In a counter-edit less than an hour later, the entry was changed to say, "The plane was shot down by Ukrainian soldiers".
